Any fellow MTs with scoliosis?

Posted: Jan 21, 2012

Any tips for dealing with the constant pain?  Sometimes it isn't so back and is just a dull ache, other times it is a nightmare and I end up not being able to sit, stand or lie down without hurting.  The only way I get sleep on the bad days is to take 200mg of trazodone and it doesn't even knock me out like the doctor said that amount should.  I still sleep so light that the slightest noise wakes me up.  I hate having to take that much, but sometimes you have to do what you don't like in order to get a little sleep.  Just looking for some advice.

I take trazodone as well and 200 mg is not - a large dose. SM

Why do you think that it is? Did your doc say that? I take that dose and sometimes more if needed. I also use a white noise machine to help me get to sleep and stay asleep. Mine is actually an air purifier machine that is loud. Some of these white noise machines are not loud enough. If you are experiencing that much pain, do you take any prescription meds for that other than NSAIDS? Chronic pain is debilitating both physically and mentally. When the main focus of your brain is "I'm in pain" you cannot function properly. I find that even anticipating the pain becomes the focus on those days when the pain is not as bad as I know it can be. I have to use a heating pad as well when I work.

The doc did say that because... sm - mtlt

...I have a FAMILY history of medication dependence and drug seeking behavior, not a personal medical history. He says he is worried that I might develop the same problem. I have tried white noise, but it doesn't help. I also tried the heating pad when I was first diagnosed six years ago, but ended up not using it after six months with no relief from it. I am actually not on anything else right now because I can't afford it yet. Just got back to working. I also have other health issues that I can't take care of right now. I am just glad when the pain is a dull ache. I can actually almost forget about the pain when I am having one of my good days. I do appreciate you taking the time to reply. Best of luck to you!

Hmmmm... in the future. leave out the info - on family history. JMO NM

Not many doctors close by that I would trust.

Yes I have it too. I have found nothing that helps. Maybe a pain clinic would be able to help with some shots? Have you tried Neurontin or Lyrica? My friend had surgery for it which was successful but a long recovery and she cannot bend over now. My heart goes out to you as I know how painful this is and I hope you find something that helps.

I am seriously considering this. sm - mtlt

As soon as I can get back on my feet I am seriously considering going to a pain clinic. There aren't any close, but I have located a few that aren't too far away. I've been put on morphine and Demerol before, but they didn't seem to do anything for me on the bad days, just the good days. I was so out of it because of the high dose that I was barely functional so I quit taking them. It really helps to know that there are others who are dealing with this too. Best of luck to you!

Maybe I'm wrong, but my scoliosis seems to be worsening due to long hours sitting all day long. School screenings came along after I graduated so it wasn't caught early. It's not painful, just annoying. Never got on the chiropractor's weekly plan, which he recommended, due to $$$ and no insurance coverage. There's no cure anyway. I just live with it. I am worried, though, about spine degeneration. Anyone know of any new technology to effectively treat adult scolio ...

I haven't had to deal with credit cards since my divorce.  So, I finally got one of my own with 10,000 credit limit.  Why they gave me that much  I'll never know.   Never had to use it, that is, until a couple of months ago when I had an unexpected medical bill of $9000, so I had to practically max the card out.  I don't know WHAT I would have done if I didn't have that card to put it on.  So, I looked at my statement today....says my last paymen ...

I've read a campaign for Hillary has already raised over a million dollars in its first quarter--I really think she's planning on running. This article also mentions a likely Biden run. What I want to know is, which would you rather see run? I hope it's Hillary--Biden is fine as a VP, but I think he's a little too off his rocker to be president.   ...

I am writing this to hopefully prevent someone else from feeling the pain that I feel or your beloved pet from suffering unnecessarily.  My 8-year-old golden retriever became ill this past week.  I googled her symptoms and it led me to a condition called pyometra which I had never heard of.  She didn't quite fit the criteria for that so I assumed she had a stomach virus.  I tried to make her comfortable and take care of her myself but she wasn't getting any better.& ...
