Venting .....

Posted: Apr 27, 2010

After watching all of the publicity about the Lane Bryant commercial, which personally I thought was a LOT less revealing than the Victoria Secret commercials, I just have to say that it absolutely ticks me off to look for a dress or an outfit.  Okay, grant you, I am FAT, not hugely so but still, I accept it, I am fat, working on it, but still fat.  Recently I have been trying to find a dress to wear to a wedding and I have to make sure that I take my blood pressure meds before I do (yep high blood pressure probably because I am FAT) because it sends my blood pressure through the roof when I go to look at PLUS SIZE clothes and they have these STICK-THIN models in them!!!!!  Give me a break please!  I want to know how someone like ME is going to look in it and when I do find something that I like, go to try it on WOW what that does to the ego because of course that image of that stick-thin model in the same outfit is in your mind, regardless if you want it there or not.

Anyway ... moving on to the treadmill after I have my snickers (joking of course) ... vent is finished.   Thanks for listening!!!  :)

I'm pretty slim, and had the opposite experience to yours one day looking for a gown/dress to wear to a very dressy party. I was at Ross, and I usually have excellent luck there. But, at least in the "Fancy Dress Section" of the store, there was hardly anything in my size. All the really cute dresses were WAY TOO BIG for me. There was an incredible variety from which to choose in the Plus Size section, but in the size 9/10 section, it was pretty well picked over, only the goofy-looking stuff was left.

What about mail-order? I've seen lots of great things online, and as we all know, you can get pretty much ANYTHING YOU WANT on the Internet! ;)

Good luck!

I think they just object to seeing full-figured women. I find clothing shopping the most humiliating thing in the world. I'm a 12-18 depending on the clothes. So I'm too big for the cute slim clothes and not heavy enough for the Lane Bryant stores. I live in T-shirts and yoga pants and if there is a special occasion I don't know what I'll do! Good luck to you I totally understand.

I want to start by saying I am very grateful that my disability claim was approved the first time.  I am close to retirement age, so that made it a bit easier.  I could only work part-time due to my physical condition, and therefore was paying my own health insurance.  That amounted to $400.00 per month.    Now, since I am on disability,  I qualify for an income based limited health plan with Highmark Blue Shield which runs $130.00 per month.  That, of course, ...

Start rant: I am thankful to have a job, BUT why can't doctors have there stuff in order before they start dictating???? The more they sit and go through charts and say "uh uh uh uh uh uh uh" is money out of my pocket and wasting my time. If it was once in a while, fine, but sometimes it is just too often. They would be having fits if transcriptionists were wasting their time!!! :End rant. ...

Not my words, just sharing it from another forum. Your thoughts about it? ====================== I'm venting, but the truth is this.I carry a pistol in my purse, everywhere I go. I'm trained, and liscenced to carry it. I practice loading, cleaning, and shooting it at least once a month.I will stand and fight. I will not be slaughtered, or stand by helpless while others are slaughtered.I will go to jail before I allow this to be changed. ======================== ...

Since the mid 60's we have spent $16 Trillion on means tested government income re-distribution programs. We are now $14 Trillion in debt and have 43 million people on food stamps, over 40 million kids getting free school lunches, 9 million more on WIC, about 8 million in subsidized housing, 5 million on TANF, 8 million on SSI (including 1.2 million kids), about 49 million on Medicaid and 71 million households not paying federal income taxes because of EITC and the Child Tax Credit. I was let go from IMedX for not flexing due to low work on day shift.  Sorry, but I can't flex late night/overnight hours due to having a 4-year-old.  She comes first.  Transtech was understanding but this IMedX bunch is ruthless.  I have a new IC part-time job now with plenty of work during the day, M-F w/rotating weekends, where I'm treated fairly and the pay is good.  This is to pay bills and help with tuition.  I just registered for my first class sinc ...
