Teenage babysitters

Posted: Mar 16, 2011

Can anyone tell me the going rate for teenage babysitters (plus pizza and rent movies for them)?  Nothing major - few hours on a friday or saturday night.  My child is 10 and is a good kid so no diapers, chasing around, etc.

TIA!!!

$5.00 an hour - too broke to go out

Or, if you live nearby, I will do it for $4.00 an hour and then I could earn some money to go out! :)

I agree $5.00/hour - LinK

That's what my daughter used to charge to babysit. It may depend on the area where you live. I once had friends who were visiting friends in NYC and when they went out the babysitter cost then $20 an hour! Luckily we've never had to pay a sitter. There's a 10 year age difference between my two daughters so we have had a built-in babysitter for quite a while.

WOW! You can find teen sitters for 5 bucks an hour in your towns???!!! Not here! South Texas.

I live by a community college and high school and posted a flyer, got some calls and interviewed a few kids. They want 6-7 bucks an hour, minimum of 4 hours, NOT including pizza! I also wanted them to have their own transportation and a reference from a teacher or professor.

I figure they can either snack from my cabinets and fridge or bring their own pizza. I DO NOT allow them to bring a friend and have a nanny cam.

On the plus side, I met a young man that I really like, trust with my kids and use over and over. He also gets use of my desktop for his homework and loves using my home office too. He is studying to be a teacher too, so practices teaching to my kids (pre-teens). He has also helped my husband with odd jobs for the same fee and once traded a couple of baby sitting jobs if my husband would help him with his car.

He says he still lives at home and hardly has any quiet time or privacy to study, so we all get something when he baby sits!

I tried the high school kids, but twice when we came home they had "friends" over and I blew my stack when I noticed they had been in my room...

I think when you find one good, trustworthy sitter, the fee hardly matters.

Higher than $5/hour here, too, and I am in the poorest - Kendra

state in the nation. We usually ask someone from church who has kids, as well, an offer to babysit for them while they go out. That way, nobody has to pay a sitter. :D

8 to 10 here. - NM

Not My Kid, But Got Teenage IssuesAug 24, 2010
A very dear friend of my husband and I has gone off the deep end over the past year or more.  He is a full-blown cocaine/crack addict and his family has all but disowned him.  He pretty much does what he wants and is not anywhere near the point where he feels like he needs help. He has kicked his wife and her 15 year old daughter out of the house several times during his path of self destruction.  Most recent was this past weekend AFTER he took almost everything in their ...

Need Some Hints About Teenage Music WantsNov 29, 2009
I have gotten together some items for families that may be lacking this year. Already got one family with 4 children their Christmas and have most for a family of 6 (egads) children what might brighten their Christmas morning. Another lady said her sons, 14, 15 and 19 (yes, I know they are older) might like clothing, cologne or something in the music department. I am trying to go as cheap as I can with used toys for the smaller ones but can anyone point me in the right direction of buying ...

Teenage Daughters (long)Jul 17, 2011
My 13 year old stole some Barbies from my cousin's daughter.  Nothing big, but was special to the other girl and she was very upset.  In my heart I knew she did it as soon as I heard but she lied to me multiple times, lied to her my cousin and her daughter and then finally when my cousin drove across town to my house to confront her in person, she said she had thrown them away in the trash can at the restaurant we were at when I confronted her the first time.  Went back and m ...

Teenage Girl/Boy ProblemsApr 26, 2011
Not sure what to do.  This is the first time I've had to deal with this, though I'm sure it won't be the last.  My daugther is in the process of breaking up with her first real boyfriend.  They're both 17 years old.  They were pretty serious for 6 months.  I'm not aware of everything, but from what my daughter has told me this 15 year old girl (who lives out of the area), who looks from her FB profile page to be 20 (very sexy profile pic) has her ...

Need Advice About Teenage Girl And Boy Issues!Oct 05, 2015
My daughter is a freshman in HS and barely 15, just turned last month.  This summer, while she was still 14, a senior boy who is 17, started "talking" to her which I understand to mean he liked her and wanted to start dating.  I said no.  He's too old.  She was all "he's nice and I'm almost 15" blah, blah, blah.  Her father and I are divorced and one weekend when she was with him, her father allowed this boy to take her to a movie on a Sunday afternoon wit ...
