Removing wallpaper

Posted: Mar 29, 2011

My sister bought a house the end of December, and she wants to remove old wallpaper in several rooms.  I saw a product on line called SimpleStrip.  Anyone use  it?   If anyone has a suggestion I will pass it along to her.

Thanks!

Never heard of that product but I have heard that if you use a wallpaper scoring tool (it's palm size with a bunch of needles or something in it) and score the paper to put holes in it, then spray a mixture of equal parts of water and fabric starch and allow it to penetrate the glue through the holes, it should peel off fairly easily. Not to mention, the starch and water is probably less toxic than what you saw online. I hope it works for her.

Thank You, Sassy - Christine

The product I saw also came with a tool to score the paper. It also came with a bottle of liquid to spray, which probably would be more toxic than what you suggested. I'll pass that on to her.

I tried using Downey about a month ago, all I can say is my room smelled good, it didn't help at taking my border off. I ended up buying a chemical.

The easiest and the cheapest way to remove wallpaper is to first score the wallpaper with the little red ball thingy (mentioned elsewhere)and use piping hot to boiling water (I boil water in the tea kettle). Pour the water into a spray bottle. To that I add about half cup of white vinegar. If you boiled the water, you might need a potholder to hold the spray bottle but then you spray the wallpaper and let it soak about 10-15 minutes, spray again and then scrape with a wallpaper scraper. The vinegar helps dissolve the old paste. Works great and very cheap.

It's in the bathroom.  Wouldn't you think all those showers would steam it right off the walls?  No.  It's on there good and tight and won't come off no matter what I do.  I've been scraping and scraping and my arms feel like jello.  I've tried window cleaner.  I've tried vinegar.  I've tried windshield wiper fluid, which, oddly, is the best yet.  I've tried fabric softener.  Anyone out there have a miracl ...

How About The Issue Of Removing TheMar 28, 2017
Instead of burying those issues with propaganda, how do you feel about the administration getting rid of protections for our environment?  Taking away the funds that help keep the Great Lakes clean?  Keep corporations from polluting our water, air and land? Deflecting to propaganda does not express your views on that.  Do you think the president is right to do these things? ...

Removing Glue From GlassMay 21, 2011
Last week my stepfather bought new sliding doors and had them installed.  It looks beautiful.  He bought the kind with the tiny blinds between the glass.  We just love the appearance, but when I took some stickers off for him they left big sticky glue marks behind.  We tried different things, but to no avail.  Anyone have any ideas?  I mentioned I could bring some nail polish remover up, but I hope that doesn't leave a mark on the glass.&nb ...
