I have scorpions in my kitchen, egads!!

Posted: Nov 19, 2009

Ok, just saw another 1 for the second time. Still working but am going to spray for those critters ASAP. They are little brown ones and my kitty wants to eat them. Ugh! I stomped that critter. I know there are probably nests around my home somewhere. Just saw my first the other day, now another.

That is gross. I can't even kill a spider let alone a scorpion...if we had those around here.

Just curious, where do you live? Thankfully on the east coast we don't have them. (At least I don't think we do.)

Live in Georgia. Actually reading tonight they could be most anywhere. I have seen them in hot weather places such as Mexico but this is my first run in with them here.
Typo, correcting myself- that was think again! Late here - and my brain is not on auto now

Fire ants. The first morning I woke up in SC, I went to the driveway to grab the newspaper that was wrapped in plastic. By the time I reached my kitchen, my arm was on fire and I realized what had happened. Another time, a friend and I went to a carnival, got there are dark. I stepped in a fire ant hill. They're slowly making their way north too. If you ever see a nest, stay away as much as possible but put a stick in it and watch them attack in droves. That's what they do to you.

In Ohio, our major worry is the brown recluse.

Egad. Creepy. I hated those huge cock roaches in SC. Doesn't matter how clean you are, you've got 'em. My Terminix guy was a huge help. You could beat the daylights out of those things with a broom and they'd still take off running.

house, not a whole we could do. Bad thing was our carpet was a brown mingled carpet, so next to impossible to see them on the carpet. We had tarantulas (sp?) also.

What did you do for them, not just keep them? - Killing those things

Our home is mostly tile all throughout, only carpet is in the master bedroom and these jokers have been found in the kitchen and usually my smaller kitty trying to get them. My husband bought home some Hot Shot solution but have to use when me and the kitties not here and let it dry. What did you do for them, and those tarantulas, OMG!!

Our cat took care of them most of the time, I guess - ht

she knew how not to get stung or whatever. If I saw them I would just get a box or something and catch them and throw them back outside. I did stop going barefoot in the house. Luckily the spiders stayed outdoors for the most part, would see them sunning themselves on our deck railing. They would just run away. It is a sight, howeer, to see a bunch of them crossing the road in front of your car. Don't miss either one of them a bit since we moved back to KY.

Google Demon spider spray. Interestingly enough, scorpions are related to spiders and ticks. After one of my dogs was stung by a scorpion (and $175 for the emergency vet visit!), we contacted an exterminator pronto. That controlled the problem, but we discovered it is a lot cheaper to do our own spraying. In the meantime, do some cleanup around the outside of your home (wood piles, leaves, etc.).

Flies In The Kitchen?Jun 21, 2010
Help!  I have these flies all in my kitchen.  They look similar to the common house fly, but A LOT smaller.  I thought they may be fruit flies?  But, my kitchen is not dirty, no fruit around on counters, no food on counters, nothing, but these things are all in the sink, on backsplashes, paper towel holder, etc.  I scrubbed everything down with bleach, killed multiple flies in the process, looked nice and clean, so I thought I was in the clear, BUT..............mayb ...

Instead Of A Big Brown Box Sitting In The KitchenJan 21, 2015
I buy sweet potatoes by the box load, about 25 pounds at a time, also buy onions and oranges the same way at the farmer's market. Would anyone have any ideas about how to store the items instead of their being in the boxes like they are now, out in the kitchen? I have no storage space in my cabinets and where they are located now is like a cubby hole under a desk, not a movable one but one made into the countertop. Thanks for any ideas. ...

Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer QuestionJan 12, 2013
I received a Kitchen Aid stand mixer for Xmas and I am thrilled, but any time I try to make a risen dough, bread, pizza crust, etc., they do not rise sufficiently and seem tough. I always kneaded these things by hand and never had the problem, but when I use the mixer it does not seem right. Am I overmixing? I am following the instructions to the letter, so if anyone has any feedback, that would be appreciated. Last week we had the great pizza disaster of 2013 and all ate salami sandwiches f ...

Internet Tip - Kitchen Timer Works WondersMar 08, 2014
If you feel too much of your time gets sucked up by the Internet - use a kitchen timer, set it for however long you want to be on the Internet per day, and stick to it. I am doing this French online learning course, and I always look over at the timer, because I want to get my time in with my French.  It's a big help. In fact, a kitchen timer is a big help with any amorphous task, writing essays, painting, reading.  Although the one I have is noisy (tick, tick), so I kind of bur ...
