My tomatoes are out of control.  Peppers too.  Looking forward to salsa.

Our Garden - see msg

I live in FL, so we have a year-round garden. Some of it is under our pool cage, which provides direct sunlight, but kind of like an SPF so nothing burns.

Under that pool cage we are growing basil and habaneros. All the way outside (though somewhat shaded), we have a rosemary bush, a bay leaf "tree" and a sage bush.

We also have a guava tree, lime tree, banana tree, and a passion fruit vine in the more direct sunlight. Our lime tree is having some issues---there's a lime disease problem here, so we're not doing well there. Our banana tree doesn't produce frequently, but when it does, it makes like 50 bananas per hand, then we're frantically making banana bread, banana muffins, etc., before they go bad.

It's fun particularly with the herbs. We just pick our basil, sage, rosemary and bay leaf fresh when we need it. We make our own hot sauce with the habaneros. We mill and make juice of the passion fruit and guava.

Life is good in Florida!

Fried Green Tomatoes!! - Yummmmm

One of my favorite parts of summer, next to corn on the cob. Oh, and strawberries. And watermelon. Fresh peaches, too!

I love home grown tomatoes, searched around a few months ago, found out a close farmer to me, have been in contact and the tomatoes will be ripe he says in about 3 to 4 weeks. I can hardly wait. A ripe tomato and some salt equals heaven.

It all sounds good................... - wheres_my_job

Can't wait to get peaches, more watermelon, and tomatoes in cardboard boxes with metal handles. A couple of farmer's stands around where I live. I love peach salsa, tabouleh, fruit salad.

Have never heard of tabouleh - until this moment!

Just did a Google search & it sounds very good.

I love tabouleh, but it contains bulgur wheat, and I have been avoiding grains. My favorite salad in the world is a simple mixture of grape tomatoes, black olives, finely chopped curly parsley, thinly sliced red onion, shaved parmensan cheese, freshly ground black pepper, tossed in lemon juice and olive oil. Parsley is better for us than I ever imagined, and I could eat this salad every day and never get tired of it.

What we do - With green tomatoes

We bread and fry them, and take them a step further. Parmesan them as you would eggplant, chicken, etc. After frying, drain them on a paper towel. Place a small amount of your favorite spaghetti sauce in the bottom of a baking dish, layer your fried sliced tomatoes, then top with more sauce and shredded or sliced mozarella and bake until cheese is melted and sides are bubbly.

ever had a BL/FGT? - yum

Instead of making your BLT with a slice of red tomato, add a couple of slices of fried green tomato. Be sure to have napkins handy as FGT tend to slide a bit, but it is soooo yummy.
Nope, never thought of that - Yum

OMG, a BLT FGT sammich. That sounds wonderful! We could panini it!

Vegtable Garden In The Front Yard?May 22, 2012
I am of the school that you plant flowers and shrubs and bushes in the front yard for good curb appeal.  You make your house look very appealing and pretty, but we have newer neighbors next to us that have decided to plant a vegtable garden out front.  They are growing carrots and onions and such in front of the house, while the rest of the block looks pretty, my mid summer, this yard next to ours is going to look like a weedy jungle.  They bought a townhouse, not a farm house.&nb ...
