Guess now we are supposed to do their
Posted: Mar 13, 2015
When I work I have my window shutters open, sit where I can see anyone who passes by my home (live in a cul-de-sac), comes down my driveway, the mail person, others and love it. My husband was expecting a package, which I did not know about until after hubby arrived home yesterday asking if the men in brown had been here. I had seen them stop right beside my mailbox but never came down the driveway. Husband checked his email and saw where the package was delivered. Might have been but not to us. He called the men and this morning we got a call back and they were saying possibly delivered to a neighbor's home and could we go out and see where it might be. My husband is a very quiet, meek guy but me, not even. He let me have the phone and I told person on phone I don't even know the people's names on either side of my home, certainly not going knocking on people's front door, not my job and would expect them to send someone to look for our package. I am just blown away by how others expect us to do their jobs, just thinking if I could get anyone to do mine? ;
Me too. I sometimes think my husband gets embarrassed - because I tell people off without a second thought

I was at the grocery store. This particular grocery has a store card that you present at the register to get discounts and sale items at the sale price. There are two locations I frequent, both require the card for the discounts. At one location, the cashier always asks me if I have my card and I hand it to him/her. The other location, I took my card out and she started scanning so I extended the card to her and she never even looked at me. So I said, nicely at first, "here's my card..." She didn't even look up or respond to me! So I read her name off her name tag and I said "Erica, could you please at the very least acknowledge my existence?" She looked up then and then pointedly laid my card on the counter and said "Here is my card when you're ready for it." She gave me a dirty look, scanned my card, and finished my transaction without so much as a thank you. The sacker on the other hand was very polite and thanke him and I told him to have a great day.
Nobody knows how to behave anymore or do their jobs with a smile. I want eye contact and courtesy! Is that too much to ask?
Eye contact and courtesy is not too much to ask, - but it starts with you.
[ In Reply To ..]
You cannot enforce courtesy. You can only demonstrate it yourself and encourage it in response.
It is especially difficult to enforce it with the tactics mommies use to train toddlers, which is what you used. You would feel insulted to be treated that way. Others do, too.
I do not have the expectation that I am entitled to eye contact, nor do I have the expectation that I am entitled to have my card taken when I want it taken. I do expect good service, but I am willing to let it take many forms. I also expect that I can set the tone for my own service by my own behavior toward the clerk. I am rarely disappointed.

Erica's manager may have been watching. Maybe she chit-chats too much and was told to keep her mind on her work. Maybe she had to concentrate so she wouldn't mess up. Maybe she had a fight with her husband. Maybe she got bad news at the doctor or has a sick child or parent. You are responsible for your behavior too. You could have waited until she finished checking the groceries and presented your card when you paid - most places have scanners for those. Don't let stuff like this ruin your day, it's totally not worth it.
Agree - Yeesh...

Some people are just so full of themselves and they prance around like the Queen of Sheba. I am not impressed, and most people aren't.
These types of people have the attitude,"I am who I am, and if you don't like it, too bad." Okay, good. I don't like it and want zippo to do with you.
And if her husband is putting up with that, he needs to grow a pair and leave her.

Being mean, rotten and nasty is a choice. People can't choose their emotions, but unless they are *seriously* mentally ill, they can choose what they do with them.
Anyone can fly off the handle once in a while, but people who throw their weight around are just plain arrogant and quite unlikeable. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE.
They did their job - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
They did their job, which is to deliver. If they had to deliver to a neighbor, that is what they had to do.
There are two possible explanations. One is that the truck you saw was not delivering your package and you missed the one that did, and they had to deliver to a neighbor.
The other is that you left the package out so long that it was stolen.
I get UPS and Fed Ex deliveries 2 to 3 times a week. If you do not want them making the closest delivery to you if you are not there, you need to specify to deliver only to you and require a signature.
I would not be proud of anger-management issues or hostile, confrontational problem-solving skills. What you sow, you shall reap.
I have never heard of UPS delivering to a neighbor EVER! - It's laziness!
[ In Reply To ..]
I have a covered porch and if no one answers my door, UPS just leaves the package next to my front door or inside the screen door. They have NEVER taken my package to my neighbors! Why would they do that without my permission and if I never instructed them to do that, why would I have to instruct them NOT to do that?!?!?!?
The OP's UPS guy delivered her package to the wrong address plain and simple. He never even came to her door to attempt to deliver it to an actual person. Your explanation seems to suggest he drove down her street, looked at her house and decided looks like nobody's home without even knocking or getting out of his truck and then moving on to the next house!
This kind of crap makes me angry. People doing their jobs half-a$$ed and getting away with it because there are too many bleeding hearts making excuses for them. Boo Hoo! DO THE JOB YOUR PAID TO DO!
Poster here, UPS asked me to go out - and knock on other's doors
[ In Reply To ..]
trying to locate my package? I guess that was my job also. I do not ever go knocking on people's doors anywhere. Apparently no one keeps up with the news because a young girl not long ago killed by a shot thru the door when she had car trouble outside and the person thought she was an intruder. Husband and I after 4 that evening sitting here trying to make calls and run down the package, UPS telling us they would call us back in an hour, wait awhile longer, no one calling us back. UPS is really getting a bad name because all over Youtube about their bad service, anyone with a grain of sand sense knows that their deliveries are not up to what they should be. I refuse to go out and run down packages going down to door like they asked me to do. The package now has been sitting all Thursday night out in the rain on the front porch of a neighbor- husband spotted it when he left out Friday afternoon for an appointment. Can you give them ratings anywhere for their job (not) done?
It's ridiculous that UPS asked you to do this! I'd go up the food chain at UPS! - Complain, Complain, Complain!

Just an FYI, I receive numerous deliveries by UPS and by FEDEX as another posted she does as well. I live in a small rural town, so the UPS and FedEx delviery guys are normally the same two fellas unless they are off or on vacation. I know the FedEx guy by name and he knows me. He's friendly and pleasant and always does a great job. I have no idea who the UPS guy is as even when I'm home, he rings my bell, leaves my package, and sprints back to his truck before I have chance to even answer the door. It's like he AVOIDS human contact.
When I'm shipping something, I ALWAYS use FedEx.
Have been thinking your recommendation over this - morning about Fedex
[ In Reply To ..]
I have a UPS really close to me and have used it many, many times, in fact the boss there knows me by my first name. I plan on going there Monday morning to tell her I want to file a complaint and maybe she can steer me in the right direction. I just use their service much too much to be told to get out and trot from door to door to find my own package. Thanks for the recommendation, guess thinking on the same track this morning.
But you are so wrong, you see I saw the truck - at my mailbox, I was looking
[ In Reply To ..]
directly out because I can see anyone who walks down my driveway or stops at my mailbox like they did. Did not know to go out and shout them down and when they come to my door I am usually out before they even get here. Having said that, they DID NOT do their job. It rained here yesterday. Husband left out to go to a doctor's appointment and the package was left sitting out on my neighbor's front porch, all soaking wet now, so I guess their job was done right, huh? It was late Thursday night when we tried to track down the package, sit out since Thursday around 3 (when UPS sent email saying delivered to us, hah) and now Saturday morning. Contacted the seller and they are sending out a new product. Just to let you know, home again yesterday and UPS never sent another person to check for the package nor did they contact me back -- like ever.
I guess you will say they did their job this time also: Example
I live at 114 Fox (Trace)
Another neighbor's address is
114 Fox (Walk)
My package was taken to the 2nd address. Brown in action I guess you would say.
I stay at home almost 24/7 and yet you made mention of having my package delivered to a neighbor. The neighbors on both sides of me go out to jobs, theirs are not a home job like mine. You make no sense.
R U Kidding? - Grow up
[ In Reply To ..]
Go ask the neighbors if they got your package by mistake and introduce yourself, it's a good ice breaker. I can only guess at the postal carrier's response when you called them, probably not in this universe are they going to send someone to look for your package. Give them a break; it could have been a new delivery person, maybe they just made a mistake (you do know what those are, don't you?) If they were in a hurry and just glanced at the address they could have gotten it wrong. I live in a small condo community and our mailboxes are side by side. Sometimes the mailman gets it wrong and we end up with each other's mail. It's rare, but it happens. We straighten it out and move on. It's no wonder you work at home, you wouldn't be able to tolerate the daily mix-ups in most offices and your co-workers would hate you for being so intolerant of other's mistakes.
Some are so full of it, you know that? - Probably worked more hours

in outside job than most have been on this earth, like 40 years worth of office work before starting to work at home. You might like to go meet your (new) neighbors late at night, knock on their doors but most who do this never have the insight into what is happening in the world around them today, like the young girl who was killed simply because her car broke down and knocking on someone's door one night to get help. I can overlook youth and its ignorance but I refuse to do what others THINK I should do to retrieve a package. My home and the others in my neighborhood sit on 1/2 acre between us, HOA and our mailboxes have to have the numbers on the front and backsides of them, 2 different places for people who perhaps have trouble just seeing 1 side of things. If the men in brown had cared so much perhaps by now (Thursday from Sunday) they might have a) called us back checking to see if it turned up or b) sent someone around to check for it. Nah, nothing, nada and that is not my job to go out and hunt my package down. Sometimes people cannot even read postings correctly. I wrote men in brown and people turn that around to read postal??? Surprised some can be MTs when unable to comprehend sentences.
You don't have to go late at night - Think about it
[ In Reply To ..]
Go to the neighbors during the day and find out what happened to your package. If you saw the delivery person at the mailbox, why didn't you go out and get the package then? UPS is not going to come back and help you look so if you want your package you will need to figure something out. You can continue to bitch about it, make yourself miserable and possibly cause someone to get fired. If that floats your boat, by all means go for it. You'll have your package, and that's what really matters.
I did not order, did not expect, they were not right - in front of my mailbox, did not know

it was left at the neighbor's house, don't know how else to explain. I was at home, vehicle in driveway, looking out window where my desk is, seeing mail box, UPS off to left of my box,(usually if for me they are parked directly in front of my home, blocking my driveway, blocking the mailbox) no one coming down my driveway, not expecting, husband had been at all day company physical, on his way in he saw the truck leaving, came in asked did it arrive, no, he checked email, UPS said delivered at 3:30 something, checked outside the door where supposedly left, nothing there, called UPS, said return call in an hour, waited, nothing, dark then, I called and 2 people told me to go door to door to see if left somewhere else which I refused to do. Next day I was going to work, he had appointment across town, no one ever called, came by. This was Thursday. Saturday morning a neighbor bought the box to us- the guy works OUT of town and had just found on his porch. Strange he could find us - name, address on top but UPS couldn't, so the box was there from Thursday until Saturday. Laughed when I saw the person here that said UPS did their job- yeh, left it at a home where no one was and out of town. End of story. Just to let you know, reordered prior to the box coming to us and the electronic store said UPS had a search out on the delivery. Electronics also said sending replacement. Will wait and see and will keep the replacement and return the other one.
Am really surprised by these answers. We are graded, marked off by leaving off a comma even, good golly don't even think about sending a copy to the wrong physician, we are fired and yet condone others when they are lax on their jobs. I could possibly cause someone to lose their job for not doing their job. Wow, just wow.
I'm late, hope you got your package - sm

I'll weigh in anyways, just for future reference. I understand the inconvenience of this situation, but I think you should just put on your big girl panties and go introduce yourself to the neighbors and see if you can get your package. After doing so, you could write a strongly worded letter to UPS expressing your feelings about the situation, but at least you have your package.
You cited crimes that are going on in the world and we all know some people are crazy, but we can't live our lives in that "fear" state. I mean, public places have been shot up lately, but do you still grocery shop? You could also ask your husband to walk over with you, safety in numbers, right? If all else failed, call the police (I really wouldn't recommend it) and ask for a police escort to your neighbor's house. The police are public servants, they should be happy to help. Now, what they are going to say about you when they are driving off, lol, but hey, we all have our own level of crazy:) Hope you got your package.
Did I get my package, did I get my mail now - So many not doing their jobs

The first package left on neighbor's porch and stayed there from Thursday until Saturday when the guy arrived home (from working out of town) and brought it over. Out in the rain, it sat here. UPS never checked back, never but Friday morning I contacted the original dealer and they replaced the first box, got that 2 days ago. We will return the first because possible damage from out in the rain. I have not contacted UPS, was waiting until the replacement got here. I personally know the management of our community UPS, will talk with her, get the higher up number for a chat.
Now, package came to me Monday. I was not home. Good old post office this time, registered mail. About 5 p.m. I sent email using their site to request redelivery. That was to be Tuesday. Mailman came, I heard him coming, was out the door as he was at my mailbox, tried to yell him down which he did, did not have the package as "they forgot to give it to me." Bring tomorrow he said. Told him I would not be here Wednesday. I re-re-requested delivery for Thursday 3/19 on line. BTW, the mailman said he lived near me and would stop it by on his way home yesterday and of course that never happened.
If we as MTs did half of what I see, our heads would be on the chopping block.
As far as putting on the big girls pants, the neighbor who had the package originally when moving here about 3 months ago had given me a smart a... reply when parked in front of my mailbox unloading packages. I asked could the car be moved. So nah, don't have to go out of my way when package supposed to be at my front porch in the first place and sure don't have to go door to door at night like UPS asked me to do.
