FOOTBALL FAN(ANTIC)

Posted: Oct 26, 2010

My hubby has never been a football fan, rarely watches a game other than the superbowl and only then it's because we've been invited to a superbowl party.  He keeps track of scores and watches big game for the water cooler talk at the office.

Well we subscribed to a new cable service and with the new service came a free NFL season ticket.  He has ALL the games and watches then now and again (using up the free channel) and on occasion has invited friends over.

These football men are INSANE!  There have actually been arguments that I thought were going to turn into fights!  My hubby is not a fan of the Cowboys, but apparently the rest of the world is. (an exageration... haha.)  Last night one of his "friends" was even calling DH names, cussing him out really ugly, getting up in his face and I FINALLY told him to leave!  Hubby agreed that if friend couldn't agree to disagree and to just let it go (hubby said "dude, it's only a game...)  the friend actually shoved DH in the chest!  The other 2 friends that were over escorted crazy man out and DH and just sat back to regroup and try to figure out what in the world made the friend go berzerk!

One of the others that was here says "it's just football"...  ??? REALLY?  Do football "fans" really get up in to the faces of those who aren't on "their team's side"?

Needless to say, crazy man isn't coming back over to watch a game.  I'm afraid he"ll strangle my puppy next time!

So, ... Where does the line end?  Fan/fanatic?

We went to a baseball game once. My brother was apparently cheering for his team in the "wrong section" and some crazed lunatic actually punched him in the face! A fight started, but security came right away, diffused the situation and the instigator was arrested. It was absolutely insane and scarey as heck. (I spilled my beer!!!)

I agree, a game is just a game, but I think that those people who can't get past their glory days (those who were in HS sports and didn't take it beyond that...) take it too seriously. Maybe your DH's friend used to play football and wishes he still did??

I really hate that mentality, where "if-you-don't-like-my-team-you-are-a- stupid-jerk-and-can't-be-my-friend"

Help For Hurt Fingers/football ThoughtNov 20, 2009
Hi, all.  Well, most of you know I spent the entire summer sick, starting out with a UTI that I let go for 10 days (living off of OTC Pyridium) until I was peeing sheer blood.  I became septic.  Anyway 9 organ systems were involved.  I got better, broke my foot.  One of my teeth abscessed a couple of weeks ago and the root canal was a piece of cake compared to everything else. Anyway, I ended up in the ER last week after speaking with an RN at my ins. co. and with my PC ...

Do You Think Penn State Football Program Should Get The Death Penalty?Jul 16, 2012
Haven't made up my mind.  I see both sides of the argument.  First of all, so very many people will suffer who had nothing to do with the child sex abuse cover-up.  In reading arguments for and against, perhaps it is true that the persons responsible and or involved in any way should be fired, jailed, labeled as sex offenders, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP, and the football program should remain intact, as it is not fair to punish the ...
