BRCA positive and Angelia

Posted: Mar 25, 2015

Do you think the average person could have these surgeries Angelia Jolie has had, if they tested positive for this gene?  Does your insurance willingly pay for this type of surgery?  I'm just curious - or is this only for those who have the money.

;

I applaud her, would have had the surgery even before - now, for rich only?

Her mother, maternal grandmother both died from ovarian cancer. When she had her first surgery, bilateral mastectomies, knowing that cancers can be fueled by estrogen, and knowing the history of my family, would have already had this done, the tubes and the ovaries out. She just had a test done that showed possibility of ovarian positivity, maybe not full blown cancer there yet, but some test, do not know if saliva test or ? As far as rich, heavens no! Some insurance pay, not sure about all but so many now go on that "I'm begging, in a poor spot and need several thousand for myself" and surely people would give if needed. They do for most everything else.

Doesn't matter, she will die of some sort of cancer sm - just sayin

it's almost a guarantee. She can continue having organs removed but she has A cancer gene---if it doesn't manifest 1 place, it will manifest in another.

What you are saying about A going somewhere - else, interested, tell me more

I really know nothing about the A cancer gene but always like to find out more.

"A: meaning "one", not a specific gene. nm - just sayin

the BRCA gene increases risk of breast/ovarian cancer - not just ANY cancer....sm

It's not "almost a guarantee" that cancer will manifest elsewhere. You're talking about stuff you don't know about.

She was tested for THAT gene. And because she has THAT SM - just sayin

gene, she is likely to have 1 or more other markers for other types of cancer.

She WILL get cancer. Just a matter of where.
you continue to talk about stuff you don't know about - sm

Presence of a BRCA gene may increase a person's risk of some other cancers, but the presence of the BRCA gene does NOT make it likely that the person has one or more OTHER markers. You CANNOT say she WILL get cancer.
My guess is you have or know someone with the gene and sm - just sayin

don't want to hear anyone talking like this. I will respect that and good luck to you.
What? - sm

I actually don't happen to know anyone with the gene, nor do I have it to the best of my knowledge.

Are you saying the only reason I am correcting your scientific misinformation is because I have a personal agenda?

What the heck!
Yes. Certainly you're no scientist. nm - just sayin

just an agenda

Yes, average people have this surgery. - Rita

Yes, average people like me who have tested BRCA-1 positive are having oophorectomies and mastectomies. My Blue Cross/Blue Shield plan pays for this. I had the salpingoophorectomy as soon as I could schedule it. (Was already past menopause.) Facing mastectomy with reconstruction next month. It's not the only way to go, you can also choose surveillance. This was the choice that is best for me and my family. It pales in comparison to the horror of knowing my daughter had a 50/50 chance of this mutation. Fortunately she didn't inherit this from me.

This gives me a lot more confidence in Romney than what I had before. *************************************************************************** http://www.snopes.com/politics/romney/search.asp This uplifting story is totally true.   So good to hear a positive story about a candidate since the media takes delight in scraping up every negative thing they can to broadcast about conservatives.   Yep, character does matter, and what we have been hearing in the&nb ...

Asking For Some Prayers And Positive ThoughtsMar 24, 2012
I am asking for prayers and good thoughts concerning a possible job opportunity.  I lost my job at the end of February (due to my own stupidity) and have been having a hard time finding work since.  I have applied for unemployment, however, it is the process of being appealed right now, so basically, I am down to nil nothing as far as a cash flow is concerned. At my age (56), I am too old to consider retraining for another career field and I was born slightly cerebral palsied, where s ...

Do Republicans Have Anything Positive To Say About CandidatesApr 16, 2015

What you libs don't seem to understand is that, though flawed, Donald Trump's message was better than Hillary Clinton's. Read further down this board when someone asked why people voted for Trump. If you want to focus on gutter speak and negative, stay there. The rest of us want to make America great again! To those staying in the gutter, you are opening yourselves up to a lot of trash that you may not want to hear, starting with the pathological lying that HC is known for as w ...

I Have Chosen To Be Positive And Happy.Jul 07, 2017
As a liberal, I was listening to leftist radio, reading leftist literature and watching mainstream TV day in and day out. I was falling into the trap of believing the negativity and really feeling hopeless, angry and surly. A few months ago, I decided to devote one day to listening to conservative radio, reading right-leaning literature and watching Fox. I felt happier and more hopeful. I investigated the "talking heads" on Fox and thought, "Hmmm, these are some very powerful, important and i ...

Needing Some Prayers And Positive ThoughtsAug 14, 2010
I lost my job back in May, when I was making REALLY good money due to my boss being killed in a car accident and the family not wanting to take on dealing with her company.  I started working for a national and right now, not making the money that I was used to with the other MTSO.  As a resuilt, I  fell behind on my rent and during this period of time, (was asked to renew my lease, but with all the stress, it slipped my mind).  My lease was up at the end of July and 2 weeks ...
