Let the book burning begin. - These people are showing each day their lunacy

Posted: Jun 7th, 2020 - 3:44 pm In Reply to: NPR Advises Readers to ’Decolonize” Their Bookshelves by - Removing White Authors

Has anyone noticed that NPR is run by white people? CEO is a white man. I looked at the list of NPR people and I don't see any people of color. So not only while they are ridding their bookshelves of any books written by white men, they need to remove themselves from their homes, which were built by white men, get rid of their vehicles (built by white men), change their dentists and doctors (who are most likely white). They need to start eating and drinking out of their hands because their plates and cups and utensils are made by white people. Change all their clothing to clothes only made by people of color. Most of all, resign their positions at NPR to give it to people of color. These people are just so insane.

There are many authors who are white who are very good and should be on the bookshelves of everyone, along with authors of varying races and countries. We have John Steinbeck who wrote Of Mice and Men, Grapes of Wrath, Cannery Row and many others. Then there is Mark Twain who wrote The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer, and others. If you like scary books there is Steven King, Dean Koontz, Clive Barker. There are many excellent authors of color as well. I don't read a book because of the authors skin color, I read a book because it's going to take me into another world. What NPR is suggesting is the same thing as the burning of books some 50 or so years ago. People should read books because of the story, not because of what color skin the author has. If that is their determining factor they are doing the readers a great disservice. Why can't readers read all books, whether written by white, black, man, woman, Canadian, African, American, etc. These people who are calling for everyone to get rid of any book written by a white man I ask this. Are they for segregation? Only blacks go here or there and only whites go here or there? Are they for going back to a time before Rosa Parks? I grew up in the 60s. We were taught love and care for our neighbor no matter what color, gender, etc they were. The minister at our church taught us to love thy neighbor as we love thyselves. I grew up believing that every person deserves the same chances, the same opportunities, and the same respect as everyone else. No man (or woman) is better than the other. I'm even watching videos of black people saying the same thing and have the same values that I hold.

I just find it truly sad that we have people trying to divide each other, trying to take us back to a time before the 60s when there was racism and segregation. Then there are also people who are being paid to agitate and cause trouble. Can it get any sadder? As if the violence is not bad enough, you have places like NPR and others promoting the hate and division. I am truly hopeful it will end soon.
