Where the heck did such a cockamamy - idea come from

My son was in public school within the last 40 years, and he wasn't taught to hate America or look at our history with disgust. I am serious in wanting to know where you learned this or read about this hate and disgust. How did you form such an opinion. And what type of school did you attend and were you taught thusly?
