I'm scared and panicked

Posted: May 20, 2015

I am so sorry to be writing asking for prayers for money.  I've been holding on by threads, but we now have bills coming due and no money.  We received an emergency fund to help pay our mortgage and utilities last month.  We asked for 2 months because we knew we would not have jobs yet.  I just called today and they only approved one month and we are not allowed to apply again.  Tried for a loan and that was disapproved.  We were hoping to get a relative to come live with us.  Would have given us a few hundred extra dollars (and it would have saved her over $1500 in rent).  I don't think that will be happening though.  All of my family has no money, so cannot turn to them for help.  A couple months ago 3 of our debtors rearranged so we would have a breather.  DH has been applying for jobs everywhere and doing anything.  He's not getting picked.  They tell him he's ovequalified (i.e. too old).  When they find out his is a vet that's where it stops.  He almost had an excellent job.  2 execs liked him but the girls in the office did not want a man to work with.  I'm just in a panic.  I'm not making enough to pay bills, we maxed out our cards to buy food.

Please, please pray that we will have some extra income coming in.  I don't know what we'll do otherwise.

Thinking positive thoughts for you - sm

been doing the wiggle myself lately, but fortunately, for me, not as bad as you are going through. I wish I could say I prayed, but not anymore. Maybe you can pray for me praying, but that still leaves me with good thoughts for you.

Apply for one more job. Maybe, maybe that will be it. Can either of you work temp jobs? Sometimes they turn permanent. Or, I don't know how old, is old for DH, but sometimes volunteering will turn into a job too.

None of this puts food on the table tomorrow. Food bank and churches (would be hypocritical for me, but if you are praying, it might work for you). Church I was associated with took calls all day long, helping people some with utilities and food. There are also county resources. Call Salvation Army for a list of places to call, maybe.

I am praying for everyone having a hard time just plain "making it" these days. Understand your panic too ... just take it day by day. "Something" just has "to give" in this country. I applied for a second PT job just to be discriminated against because of my age recently; they would deny it, but it was pretty obvious and simply "reeked" of age discrimination.

I know what you mean - sm

This happened to me and I was without a life raft too.

First thing I did was move into the office and put add up for renters for 2 spare bedrooms, called untilities and got put on low income plan (20% off), requested forbearance on mtg which was during mod program and began having yard sales, going to flea market and pawn shop and selling my stuff. I also began to send mtg in via Western Union as banks are not to be trusted and they do want our homes.

The roommates were crazy, stole from me, and I had to kick them out and get new ones numerous times but that was because i did not ask for a deposit as needed someone immediately ... there is a better way to do this. I am preparing to do it again because as an IC making 40 grand, I owe 10 grand in state/fed taxes in California. I would move but am too poor. I even put up a FUNDME page to ask for donations to rent RV and move me and my dogs up toward state of Washington. I am not a young chicken but think I am good for one more move if I could sell this house (which I love). Economy is collapsing and you are not alone.

I understand your anxiety - it is impossible to sleep or eat. Absolute hell for me. Go to state govt page and search for unclaimed money in your name. My x died and left me a few very small mutual funds so am cashing them in right now (market is a bubble). There may be more but the financial institutions are less than cooperative when I try to find my now dead xhusbands and mines investments (I took half when I left 15 years ago, and he left his portion in both our names, dying 6 years later without changing ownership). I did it all, even got a jjob that I thought would save my life with a company only to find I would be making an income which was equivalent to minimum wage after they knew I had been making twice that before..I could not leave job as I had nothing to go to so it sucked up huge amount of time while I was putting out fires. Horrible account, horrible management, the whole shebang and it took over 2 years to find other work which came via NETWORKING (prior MT who worked with me at Spheris). Linkedin and Facebook may lead to something.

Clean houses, wash cars, recycle...I was prepared to do it all to survive.

Good luck.

Will do. This is going to be a totally substandard answer but - cannot say

what can take the pressure off you is if you haven't already, did you apply for one of the mortgage programs in your state to cut the payments down (this is a process, not an immediate help).

The next suggestion I give because I've been through it. If you have to, just let the house go into foreclosure and file bankruptcy.

Check the foreclosure message boards to find out, but you may be able to get a couple of years to live in the house without paying by the time the bank catches up with foreclosures in your area.

You can wait to file BK until someone files a lawsuit and gets a judgment against you if you like.

I have lost my house and it actually turned out to be a blessing. I was killing myself paying for something I couldn't afford. Letting it go will allow you get back on your feet, you can use the money you were putting toward your mortgage on catching up bills if you want or just sustaining yourselves until the regular paychecks come in.

If your husband is a vet, has he gone to the state unemployment services for veterans, military job-finding services for vets?

Thanks on the info on mtg programs. The other info - given is not an option for us.

Praying that God meets all your needs - sm

I understand that panic. We have been in a similar situation for the past few years. Somehow God has sustained us, though it doesn't seem possible on paper. It has been like our own personal "Jesus feeds the 5000" story. I hope that is encouraging to you.

I will definitely pray for you to have all you need and for God to bless you with faith, peace, and comfort.

Have faith - Mindy

I am so sorry for your difficult situation, but please
have faith and pray, remembering the gospels from Matthew and Luke in which Jesus told us:

Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds! Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’

Ask God to provide for you in whatever way according to His will. He will guide you and give you both the direction to follow. Ask and believe, and you will be provided for. My prayers will be said on your behalf as well. Pray and communicate with Jesus. He will hear and He will help. God bless you both.

Are you physically able to work hard? I used to clean houses. It paid really well in the area I lived. It may not in your area, but it's something. Of course, you have to be able to clean good and able to be dependable. Just a thought. Other options that aren't so tough on the body are babysitting, elder care, running errands for the disabled.

Something your husband may want to think about. Elder care agencies often are looking for males because they have a shortage of male caretakers. There are elderly and/or disabled men who need help that don't want a woman giving them a shower and things--and males are stronger and can do heavier lifting and other functions than a woman can.

I don't believe God is here to meet our needs. He is here to HELP US meet our needs.

Best of luck to you. It's really hard to be in your situation.

The VA has very good job programs. - sm

You need to contact your nearest VA hospital to see if he can get in their job placement program. It is usually run by Social Work.

I don't know what would make that impossible for you, other than he got a less than honorable discharge, is not a vet at all, or just won't work. He certainly sounds eligible for medical care, given your income.

There are also programs run by veterans organizations.

Those programs eliminate the "as soon as they find out he's a vet" problem, because the employers they work with want vets. Some of the vets end up working for the VA, and so could you.

I am a veteran and get my medical care at the VA. I would not hesitate to use or recommend any of their services. It is excellent, so please don't come back with tales of how awful it is.

When we pray for things, it is important to be receptive to what God provides. His plan might be different from ours.

Scared, So, So, ScaredMay 12, 2011
I've been awake for 5 hours.  It's now 2:15 and I haven't logged on to work yet.  There's plenty of work available.  I'm just afraid to do it.  They've set so many rules in place that it's gotten too hard to wrap my head around all of them, and many of them are now resulting in fines or just flat out not being paid for the report.  My brain's on overload.  I feel like any grasp of the English language and grammar and punctuat ...

A Bit ScaredSep 10, 2013
Several months ago, I had a few episodes of becoming momentarily disoriented while driving a very familiar route.  I spoke with a psychologist about it, and he said if it happened again to take note of what was taking place right before.  I don't recall anything significant preceding those events.  It didn't happen again until this past Saturday.  My husband and I were going to a wedding, and I was driving.  I came upon an intersection, and all of a sudden I di ...

Why Religious People Are Scared Of AtheistsJul 13, 2011
Religious believers commonly attack atheists simply for existing. Do out-of-the-closet atheists -- even polite ones -- challenge attempts at theocracy? What, exactly, do religious believers want from atheists? If you follow the atheism debates in op-ed pieces and whatnot, you'll see that critiques of the so-called New Atheist movement are often aimed at our tone. Among the pundits and opinion-makers, atheist writers and activists are typically called out for being offensive, in ...

Speaking Of The Administration Being Scared Of Fox News (sm)Feb 28, 2014
they really must be.  They let Valerie go on O'Reilly last night.  Of course, she did duck and dodge, but that was to be expected.  I'm glad the administration is finally realizing the impact Fox news is having on people hearing the truth ever since the Superbowl interview.  They are at least putting on a show to go along with them.  If you watched the show last night though, you'd have to see that Bill O really is a moron if he thinks this admin ...
