We are falling so far behind

Posted: Apr 25, 2017

Our president wants coal and pipelines and China wants electric cars.  Government is even subsidizing charging stations.  So sad the big money oil companies are dragging us down and those who do not care about our planet.

;

Any person who wants to start a company is welcome to. - In fact, many have and they go bust

because people don't buy it.

Ha! In our neighborhood we have a solar "farm" - I can go for a drive

[ In Reply To ..]
I can go for a drive and see miles and miles of windmills. Someone is buying it. In fact, I have a building that has solar panels. I wish I could afford to put my house on total solar, but I will have do with natural gas for a while longer.

Me too. Miles and miles of windmills - I also wish I could do

[ In Reply To ..]
solar panels on my house and hope costs come down as they become more popular and perfect them so I can afford to do that. I would even take a windmill in my yard to provide power with the excess going back to the power company to help them burn less and less coal. I don't have natural gas in my area so am stuck with propane for now but am always researching ways to get away from fossil fuels.

We have gotten off the grid as much as possible ourselves - for financial reasons. Why

[ In Reply To ..]
do people wait for some entrepreneur or government when they can do it themselves?

Think electric cars are truly green? Where do you think - electricity comes from for those

[ In Reply To ..]
cars - COAL. Global demand for coal will continue, especially China.

You should think again. Rome wasn't - built in a day but China

[ In Reply To ..]
is pulling ahead and Trump will take us back if he doesn't focus more on alternative energy issues. Hopefully he will change his mind on the Paris agreement and other alternative energy policies to move us forward like China is doing and continue where Obama left off. This is not a left or right side issue, it is a planet saving issue.

Many mention failed attempts but you apparently don't realize there was failure in many attempts at a lot of things that have developed over the years before perfecting them. I also know there are many states that are taking this on themselves but our federal government needs to also stay involved. This is for the good of the world and our country.

Those alternative energy sources will at best only provide - a fraction of the energy that is

[ In Reply To ..]
needed in a modern society. There’s hydroelectric power. There’s solar and wind power. There’s tidal power. Anything with a thermal or kinetic driver is fair game.

Then there's all the trees and whale and seal blubber used for burning. I don't think we'll go back to that so all the whales and trees can join hands and nature will collectively breathe a sigh of relief.

and when cars were first invented only few - had them.

[ In Reply To ..]
Did that mean we should have stopped making them? Look how they advanced through the years.

Persistence and constant progress is needed on alternative energy, not scrapping it.

Connecticut, a state making its mark in both microgrid - and fuel cell technology,

[ In Reply To ..]
today will put yet another microgrid into operation, this one in Hartford’s Parkville neighborhood.

Microgrid and fuel CellConstellation, Bloom Energy and the city plan to announce completion of the 800-kW fuel cell microgrid this afternoon at a ribbon cutting...

The microgrid will generate clean energy, manage electricity costs and supply emergency power for public buildings and businesses. The fuel cell uses natural gas to produce electricity.

The state helped fund the project with about $2 million through its Microgrid Grant Program. Hartford was among nine grant winners in a 2013 solicitation, the first of three microgrid funding offers by the state. Other microgrids that are now operating as a result of the grants include: Wesleyan University in Middletown, the University of Hartford and the town of Fairfield. In addition, a microgrid under development in Woodbridge took a big step in January when it activated its fuel cell.

...

“DEEP’s first-in-the-nation microgrid grant program is an essential tool to help minimize hardships to our residents and businesses when severe storms occur, and we are going to see more frequent and more extreme storms as a result of changes in our climate,” said Robert Klee, commissioner of Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.“Microgrid projects, such as this innovative installation in Hartford, will help maintain critical government services and amenities people need even if the power goes down.”

They still have to use natural gas to fuel the fuel cells - to produce electricity.

[ In Reply To ..]
Not only that, but how, exactly, does natural gas get to a building? Pipelines.

NGas is so much more efficient that coal - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Ngas puts 50% less carbon dioxide in atmosphere.

Gas piping -vs- tar sand oil is like comparing a fresh apple to a decayed rotted banana peel.
Some just do not understand that it is a work - in progress
[ In Reply To ..]
and feel it is just better to use fossil fuels than to progress forward. You are correct that Ngas is less toxic and for now better, but as other things become available that are earth friendly then we move forward and perfect that to move away from natural gas.

China is actually where we sell a lot of mid- to full-size cars and SUVs. - They are crazy about them.

[ In Reply To ..]
Every country (including the US) is interested in "alternative power" sources for cars and trucks, so I don't know where you get the idea (well, yes I do know)...

In fact, Hummer is now a Chinese company with larger sales there than anywhere else.

You know...Hummer...about 14 mpg.

And this from ABC News:

_______
Auto companies gradually are learning to cater to Chinese tastes. One discovery: the small, fuel-efficient models that are best sellers in Europe and Japan don't do as well here.

"Both Chinese and American people like to buy big, luxurious cars," says Zhong Shi, an auto analyst in Shanghai. "It's a symbol they dream of achieving. In China, where cars are less widespread, they are even more of a decoration, to display wealth."

That's one reason why American auto companies have done relatively well here. Zhang, the CSM analyst, says that GM and other foreign companies have successfully targeted the midsize and high-end part of the Chinese market, leaving the low-cost, low-margin segment largely to Chinese automakers."

_______
Get off the "big oil" spew. It's really, really old and it's really, really bogus. Oh, and by the way, there's nothing "green" about electric cars. It's just a different kind of pollution.

Meant to give thumbs up to your post. - whoops

Gas Tax in California - for ELECTRIC CARS

[ In Reply To ..]
People bought electric cars not only for environmental reasons, but also to get away from high gas prices, including gas taxes, etc.

Well, California has just raised their gas tax for nonelectric cars, but they are still not getting enough revenue from nonelectric cars, so they are now taxing electric car owners a gas tax.

Well that doesn't surprise me since government - wants to tax everything

[ In Reply To ..]
in one way or another, both sides. At least they are driving clean energy cars. there is also a tax credit for buying an electric car in my state.

Don't electric cars travel on roads? - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
It should not be called a gas tax, it should be called a road usage tax.

Hair Falling OutFeb 04, 2012
I am devastated right now.  I had long, thick beautiful hair and over the past couple of months I have noticed a big change in it.  Now it is falling out!  Long strands just letting loose.  At this rate, I will be bald in a couple of weeks and that is not an exaggeration.  It doesn't even look or feel like hair.  It is shriveling up and is very light and falling out!  How and why can this happen and will it stop?  Has this happened to anyone? ...

Just clicked on link below that showed Hillary having possible seizures and came up with this with Bill Clinton sleeping during her speech, Kaine noticing it and leaning in front of the camera to cover Bubba's snooze. Perfect vice president right?  Wonder if she is elected how many times he is going to have to cover for Bubba.
