"We" in Tampa is supposed to refer to bootstrap capitalists who eschew being on taxpayer dole, a rhetoric built on the exceedingly shaky foundation of a pants-on-fire Romney lie. For those who know about that lie, the big fat slogan banners are going to serve as poignant reminders of the big fat lie, not to mention the underpinnings of GOP hypocrisy, worthy of ridicule.

No such slogan will adorn the halls of the DNC arena, but the counter-messaging informs us that, yes, "We" built that. However, the North Carolina "We" refers to all of us, as taxpayers, and invokes the idea of what great accomplishments can be achieved through American exceptionalism, ingenuity and unified efforts. The O camp will not be hiding behind a lie when talking about the what WE built.

in a statement describing hordes of conventioneers attending an R&R rave. In an effort to avoid a potential personal foul, I actually had a vocabulary fail trying to plug in a synonymous sub to replace the reference. There is no single word that summons the desired visual and cognitive imagery quite as concisely as "bootstrap" when describing the mentality behind that particular mindset. Thus, woe be unto me, I had to go with it. If anyone can come up with a suitable synonym for it, please share.

It's contextual for sure. I don't think I could be mistaken for a bootstrap capitalist. Or I should say a pseudo bootstrap capitalist. Just someone who is very familiar with bootstraps in the basic metaphorical definition.
