This is the best explanation of that

Posted: Nov 26, 2012

I knew there wasn't quite something right about that poll that someone felt they needed to post it a second time below.  Here is by far the best summary of what exactly that means.

http://yardsaleofthemind.wordpress.com/2012/11/13/1571/

Oh, and please don't even get me started on any bull about my website is better than your website.  Especially when that chart below that someone posted came from "Happy Place" and was of someone's opinion.   The article I am posting actually breaks it down into "individuals", since individuals voted and not "states".  Also the fact that the only thing that graph shows is an assumption that "college educated" = "smart", when there are many more smart individuals who decided not to have mommy and daddy pay for a college degree.

Not only is the article accurate, but also the comment made by a poster below that who said - "If the correlation is true – that getting a college degree correlates positively with voting Democrat – and one feels compelled to make a chart out of it, such a chart would be a graph showing how college educated people actually voted. Not presenting that data, but rather presenting data that does not in any way support the the assertion, yet making the claim anyway – that is questionable to beyond the point of dishonesty. The nicest thing one could say is that the person putting together the chart is an ignoramus. and second, historically, college educated men are more likely to vote Republican than Democrat, and college educated women have recently (like, in the last decade or so) flipped to voting Democrat. This election? Unclear."

So the truth still remains that the states that voted for Obama are the richer states where parents can afford to send their kids to those colleges.  The fact still lies that the chart some unknown person dreamed up does not actually give an accurate account of smart/dumb voters.  Besides there are many intelligent people in red states who own their own businesses and some do even have degrees who differ with the dumb one who dreamt up that little graph.

I did however particulary enjoy the photograph they included of Obama voters ;-)

the chart correlates facts, not a "poll" - smart person

the validity of the chart is a personal opinion. The chart is correct more "educated states" voted for Obama, but your statement that Obama states are richer and people can afford college is wrong. I live in an "Obama state" (thank goodness) and very few of my family, myself included, had family money to support our educations. I worked and paid off loans to go to college. I went to an excellent public school for precollege,so your assumption is false.

also noticed in this "chart".... - nm

that the "best educated" side all came from east coast and eastern states, while all of the "least educated" came from the southern states. Plenty of racial implications here, as well as stereotyping and profiling labels. besides that....education does not always = "smart".

who is doing the stereotyping and profiling? - it's DATA

Numbers don't do profiling. We all know that certain parts of the country are wealthier than others, present more opportunity than others, produce more scholars than others. The important part is to try to make these opportunities available for everyone. That's less likely to happen if citizens think that the presentation of data is some kind of plot.

Education has a strong correlation with liberality--people don't - become liberals, just more liberal comparatively.

I understand why you wouldn't like this, but it's the simple truth. Conversely, less education is associated with greater conservatism. A lot of posts on this board are immediate clues to low education levels because you wouldn't get passing grades in college if you use Breitbart and Fox as sources and you'd have learned not to use them at all. You have to be able to support your arguments with true facts.

This Is The Best Explanation I Have Seen. Jul 11, 2016
Courtesy of GeekAeslete on reddit: Imagine that you're sitting down to dinner with your family, and while everyone else gets a serving of the meal, you don't get any. So you say "I should get my fair share." And as a direct response to this, your dad corrects you, saying, "everyone should get their fair share." Now, that's a wonderful sentiment -- indeed, everyone should, and that was kinda your point in the first place: that you should be a part of everyone, and you should get ...

For Those Who Are Puzzled, An Explanation Of TheMar 18, 2016
Right up front, let me say that there are things about Donald Trump that I dislike intensely, and if my reading of the blogosphere, media, etc. is correct, there are many who dislike the same things.  In all fairness, however, most of my objections have to do with his persona and his presentation (which I consider to be undiplomatic and even adolescent at times), rather than with his IDEAS or POSITIONS.  It's important to distinguish between the package and its contents.  Th ...

Explanation Of ISIL & ISISDec 19, 2015
Interesting….IIMPORTANT Explanation!!! Hope you read and pass it on so others can know-understand HERE is an explanation of the difference between the terms ISIS and ISIL. I have been suspicious of the term ISIL to which the administration stubbornly clings. ISIS = Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. Iraq is to the east of Jordan (shaped like the hatchet) and Syria is to the north. ISIL = Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. Iraq is still to the east of Jordan, and “the Levantâ ...

Explanation Of BCBS So Called DeductionMar 24, 2010
I think you are referring to the language related to a special tax benefits offered as an incentive for HMO and non-profits to achieve high percentage medical loss ratios (the percentage of HMO premium revenues that pay for medical services). Common perception is that a high ratio is indicative of high quality care.    Sec. 9016. Special deduction for Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS). Requires that non-profit BCBS organizations have a medical loss ratio of 85 percent or higher in order t ...

McConnell: May I Have A Plausible Explanation From Those In Transcription?Nov 06, 2014
As I mentioned yesterday (and from what I have read from others since my last visit), I, too, have become an independent because of the nonsense I have seen from both parties. That in no way means that I am for the abolition of parties, because I do believe one party often reins in the other, when the other goes "whack :) In fact, I believe we may need MORE parties for those of us who don't agree with the whole kit and caboodle of a single party. However, I think the problem today ...

country. Their leadership has been under intense pressure not to let refugees in, many from Muslim Indonesia and Central South America. So Obama had an agreement with Australia to sent them here. Even if asylum seekers are found to be actual refugees, they’re not allowed to be settled in Australia. They’re sent to an offshore processing center. Trump is objecting to this. The rest of the world cannot just dump their problems on us. As far as Mexico, the media just flat out lied. ...
