Starbucks

Posted: Feb 20, 2017

Hey, remember back at the end of January when some Trump fan was crowing about how Starbucks stock was in a "freefall" (though in fact it was only a 1.22% drop) after they said they'd be hiring 10,000 refugees?

And then someone claimed it was a "PRECIPITOUS drop", only to later delete their message when I pointed out that the drop they were referring to happened before the hiring announcement?

The day after the hiring announcement, SBUX opened at 56.00. Last Friday, it closed at 57.35. Or put another way, 2.4% higher than when the announcement was made. Put yet another way, it has gained twice as much as it lost after the announcement.

So much for the little boycott Trump fans tried to throw!

It's just coffee and that much of a fluctuation in the price of Starbucks stock probably had nothing to do with anything anyone said or did. If you're following that situation that closely and know their stock price, you seriously need to find something else to occupy your time. I think this business of only shopping at certain stores because it's politically correct is going too far, their coffee isn't that great anyway and it's overpriced.

Yet Ivanka's - sales are of great interest

to the right. There was a whole post about it. Just wondering if you gave the same response to that post? By the way, the whole Starbucks thing was started by the right cheering on how they are boycotting them because they disagreed with Trump and crashing their sales.

Ivanka - Not really

I don't care about Ivanka either, I actually didn't even know she had products in all those stores until people decided to start boycotting Nordstrom, I boycott it without meaning to because I can't afford to shop there. I'm a democrat by the way but I've never like being told where I can and cannot shop.

Additionally - Not really

Nordstrom's decision to dump Ivanka was not political, it was because sales were slumping but everyone turned that story around into something anti-Trump. I'm not sure why people are mad at her anyway when it's her dad who's the problem, she seems to be the classiest, most level headed one of the bunch. If you saw an Ivanka purse or pair of cute shoes in someone's yard sale or at the Goodwill for an amazingly low price, I'm guessing you would probably buy them.
You are correct that it was - not political

yet is was turned it into a political thing.

I wouldn't buy an Ivanka purse or cute shoes in a Goodwill or yard sale not because of who she is but because I don't buy used shoes or purses.

"Nordstrom's decision to dump Ivanka was not political, it was because sales were slumping but everyone turned that story around into something anti-Trump."

Quite true. The venom that the right directed at Nordstrom's was baffling, especially since the store was doing nothing more than being good capitalists. A product isn't selling well? Dump it. It's just good business!

"I'm not sure why people are mad at her anyway when it's her dad who's the problem, she seems to be the classiest, most level headed one of the bunch."

Well, to be fair, the rest of them really haven't set the bar very high!

"fluctuation in the price of Starbucks stock probably had nothing to do with anything anyone said or did."

No doubt you're quite right about that. Despite the gleeful crowing of the Trump fans when they thought their little boycott attempt had worked, those were pretty normal fluctuations.

"If you're following that situation that closely and know their stock price, you seriously need to find something else to occupy your time."

I follow that stock, and several others, because I own some shares. I pointed out the 'recovery' because Trump fans seem to have short memories, at least when something doesn't fit neatly into their world view.

GOOD JOB, TRUMP SUPPORTERS!  KEEP IT UP!!
