Something that has always kinda irked me

Posted: Sep 29, 2012

is that some of the same people who complain about capitalism, like Michael Moore, are also some of the same people who became extremely rich because of capitalism.  Another thing that irks me is that the same people who say the rich should pay their fair share aren't voluntarily paying what they consider would be their fair share.  If it is so important for the top 1% or so to pay more in taxes, why don't they walk the walk instead of talk the talk?  There is NO law stating that they cannot pay more than they are currently required to pay.  I guess I just find it ironic that the very thing they say needs to happen...they themselves won't do until there is a legal requirement to do it.

The hypocrisy of the liberal 1% has always sat like a stone in my craw, especially people like Michael Moore, who shoot their mouths of about conservatism, all while making bazillions of dollars in the process.

I saw a news piece (it was probably Fox -- nobody else would have done it). It was probably during the whole 1% uprising. Some reporter went to Congress and asked the Democrats how much they pay in taxes and if they were aware they could voluntarily pay more. The responses were very interesting.

On the other hand, there are quite a few 1%...sm - VTMT

democrats that support raising their own taxes. I haven't heard about any republican 1%ers doing so.

And those same one have tons of loopholes to get - out of paying more in taxes

Sure it sounds nice. They think it will get them votes by telling the mindless they are for raising their own taxes, but we all know they don't.

Do you have any proof that only democrats actually DID pay more taxes.

Willfull self-deception irks me. Capitalism can work very well - or be very harmful and needs some limits set. SM

All this business-generated propaganda we're flooded with arises, not from the fact that controls on exploitation limit the amount of harm out-of-control business can do to our country and us, but because they limit the extra MONEY that could be made, if only.

Only fools believe propaganda, so it's helpful to try this idea on for size: The number of people who genuinely oppose capitalism and "hate and want to destroy business" in this country wouldn't fill a typical sports stadium. That's because we LIKE being plump and prosperous and we like that properly directed capitalism is how we've accomplished that for ourselves.

(And Michael Moore? The greedy bastards try to destroy him because he exposes them. Dysfunctional and venal bureaucrats try to destroy him because he exposes them. Hypocrites across the spectrum hate him because he exposes them. So they all tell everyone else to do so too, because they have absolutely no intention of changing. Of course, now and then somebody comes along and forces them to, and they really, really, really hate that. That he's still out there taking them all on in spite of everything they've tried to take him down I find pretty remarkable. Tough, impervious guy.)

Absolutely love your post. Like button is - not enough. SM

I was about to write a response to the OP that we don't hate capitalism but out of control no regulation capitalism, which almost brought our country down. Isn't it called vulture capitalism? Capitalism that has lost its moral compass and cares only about profit, ONLY ABOUT PROFIT, forsaking this country, sending as many jobs as they can offshore, destroying the middle class. You said it much better than I could.
Actually, you say it very well. Vulture capitalism - is the term I was searching for. NM

this country became so disjointed and hate towards the rich. The other poster was right about being hypocritical. He certainly is one of the biggest hypocrites.

How much does he weight now anyway? Gots to be from all the great steak and lobster he eats from duping the gullible.
You're surprisingly excited on the subject. Did he put - a mirror in front of your face? NM

Calling for the destruction of this person? How would you like - it done? Since he is too honest to
[ In Reply To ..]
destroy honestly. Try this:

He's given his enemies no means to use the law against him. What does this say about him?

Never-ending attempts by his enemies to bring him down by character assassination have failed because he is greatly admired by millions. What does this say about him?

You want this brave, admirable truth seeker destroyed anyway because...why? The truth apparently hurts? What does this say about YOU?

Evil resides in each of us, but some give it the big front bedroom.

why would that irk you? - ctmt

These is nothing wrong with making money while illuminating the pitfalls of capitalism. Mr. Moore has been successful in our free-enterprise system due to his own sweat. I would not call him a hypocrite for this. I wish I could do it.

Nor do I expect anyone to pay more taxes than required by law. Our responsibility to our government is supposed to be rooted in that which is equitable - not charitable. What is important is to make the tax codes equitable for all, and I certainly hope we make progress where this is concerned.

Being successful and making money does not make someone a hypocrite. Using that money to buy influence, power-broke for special treatment, and tip the rules of the game in one's favor is what we need to guard against if we expect our capitalist society to remain healthy. The hypocrites are those who use our land of opportunity for personal, corporate, and legislative opportunism.

If so, what did you do to break these spells?  In the last few days I have had spells where my mind just goes completely blank and I sit here staring at the screen not knowing what to do.  It has been happening when I sit down to work and even in the middle of a report.  I will just sit here staring at the screen.  Sometimes when I look down it has been 15-20 minutes or more since I started a document and not a single line typed.  It scares me because I know it could be ...
