Legal immigrants face longer wait times to become citizens

You say that phrase as if some illegal immigrants have been made citizens!? - When did that happen?

If you mean legal immigrants face longer wait times to get into the country.... well: State the Obvious!

Bipartisan bill from the Senate approving immigration reform has been sitting on John Boehner's desk since June 2013, almost 2 years now.

Put that immigration reform bill up to a vote or come up with something else to solve the problem, Cons!

Put up or shut up, in my opinion!

There are a lot of problems with the bill. This is why - Truthhurts

it hasn't come up for a vote. (That is, if you're talking about S.744, which passed the Senate back in 2013), but the Senate Committee of the Judiciary only took it up on 12/10/2015. So, it hasn't been sitting on Boehner's desk for 2 years.

There are big time problems that have to be solved before it comes up for a vote in the House, like legalization before border security and much more.

BTW, there were 10 Democrats and 8 Republicans on the committee in 2013-2014. Do a search on their report. They didn't exactly find it to be fair to the citizens or the legal residents here and felt there it was too easy to commit fraud in applying for legal status under this bill.

So what's stopping debate on the bill and "fixing" the problems? - Let Boeher explain it for you (see video)

[ In Reply To ..]
By Greg Sargent April 25, 2014 

Late yesterday the news broke that House Speaker John Boehner had mocked his House Republican colleagues for inaction on immigration reform, mimicking them as follows: "Ohhhh. Don't make me do this. Ohhhh. This is too hard."

This morning, Boehner's quotes are starting to get wide circulation. So it's worth noting their real significance to the immigration debate: He has now effectively admitted that the real obstacle to solving the immigration problem is House Republicans.

This runs counter to the endlessly repeated claim that House Republicans won't act only because they can't trust Obama. Here's video of Boehner: [see link below]

"We get elected to make choices. We get elected to solve problems and it's remarkable to me how many of my colleagues just don't want to…They'll take the path of least resistance…. I've had every brick and bat and arrow shot at me over this issue just because I wanted to deal with it. I didn't say it was going to be easy."

Boehner has laid bare the real crux of the issue here, undoing in one stroke what months and months of spin from Republicans was designed to obscure. Boehner has repeatedly said Republicans won't act because Obama's refusal to enforce the law proves he can't be trusted to honor his end of any immigration compromise. But the first and most important question Republicans face is this: What set of terms and conditions will it take for Republicans to embrace some form of legal status for the 11 million?

Put another way, the dilemma House Republicans face is: Even if the Senate bill is unacceptable because #Obummer, is there any GOP solution to the problem of the 11 million — does there exist any reality-based package of enforcement and legal status — that can win the support of a sizable bloc of House Republicans? The Republican case has been that there is no percentage in even beginning to think about this question, because it will inevitably lead to negotiations with Dems over the final compromise, and that's a non-starter, because #Obummer. But that’s simply an excuse designed to avoid dealing with the immediate policy conundrum Republicans face on legalization, which must be tackled before any movement of any kind can take place.

Boehner’s comments can be taken as an admission that this is the core issue here: Republicans don’t want to solve the basic policy problem we face, which will require accepting uncomfortable trade-offs, when doing nothing — allowing the status quo to fester — is politically easier. Remember, Boehner himself — in the House GOP leadership’s reform principles — articulates legal status for the 11 million as a core goal of any reform. But can Republicans get to Yes? Boehner is essentially admitting that this problem is an internal one that only they can resolve.

Now, if only there were someone in a position to compel House Republicans to make the hard choices necessary to tackle the problem that Boehner himself admits must be tackled.

*****

So the real truth is that the bill passed in the Senate 68-32 in June 2013 and has been sitting in the House since that time. The other real truth about why there's been no action on it is what Boehner revealed above. I don't know what is more pathetic, watching Boehner actually cry or watching him mock his colleagues in a pretend cry. LOL. Anyone can whine that the bill needs work, but the truth is that the House is not willing to work on it.... forget the right-wing spin on immigration reform; Boehner already revealed the truth.

The GOP is a party whose members have beliefs that are diametrically opposed to each other. Regardless of the rhetoric we see from Fox News and the right-wing fringe about the plight of the poor "legal immigrants," the majority of the Tea Party crowd doesn't want immigration at all, no matter who is doing the immigrating. That is the real truth.

1. The article was from 2014.
2. He said the bill was passed by the Senate in 2013 BUT (and this is where you probably got the info that it's been sitting there for 2 years) he didn't go into the specifics of it going to the Judiciary Committee for a year.
3. He doesn't say a WORD about the problems in the bill.

IOW, the blog he wrote was not exactly truthful. Too bad I couldn't comment (comments were closed months ago) because I would have told him just what I thought about his half-true blog spot. LOL

As i said before, there's a lot of problems with this bill and that's why it hasn't come up for a vote. (That is, if you're talking about S.744, which passed the Senate back in 2013), but the Senate Committee of the Judiciary only took it up on 12/10/2015. This poster said: "Senate Committee of the Judiciary only took it up on 12/10/2015."

They probably meant December 10, 2014, due to the fact that December 2015 is a date in the future. Regardless, not sure why they think that a Senate Judiciary Committee Hearing on immigration means the bill which already passed the Senate "going to the Judiciary Committee for a year." What part of the bill PASSING the Senate is confusing at all? Why would a simple hearing on an issue in the Senate stop debate and/or voting on an issue in the House of Representatives? Please let us all know.

The bill PASSED the Senate in June 2013 by a vote of 68-32 thanks to bipartisan support and the writers of the bill, these 4 Republican and 4 Democratic Senators known as the "Gang of Eight":

Senator Marco Rubio
Senator Lindsey Graham
Senator John McCain
Senator Jeff Flake
Senator Chuck Schumer
Senator Michael Bennet
Senator Richard J. Durbin
Senator Bob Menendez

Since its passage on June 27, 2013, it has languished in the House of Representatives almost 2 years with the Speaker of the House refusing to bring it to either debate or a vote because conservative Republicans don't want immigration reform under any circumstances. The Tea Party are refusing to cooperate.... pretty standard operational procedure for the House, wouldn't you say?

Boehner explains in his own words the reasons for the House's inaction on immigration in that video and article from 2014 when he was asked by a constituent in his home district. It's and old article because comprehensive immigration reform passed the Senate in mid 2013 and has gone nowhere in the House ever since, and every now and then the press or American citizens will ask Speaker of the House Boehner why comprehensive immigration reform is getting nowhere in the House with no debate and no vote. Naturally, there'd be no need for anyone to ask the question if it hadn't actually been passed since June 2013.

Even Speaker Boehner has stopped defending his colleagues in the House for their inaction, and I'm done here explaining it. I'm not sure how much clearer an issue gets than that.

Immigrants applying to enter US legally facing longer waits

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2015/05/18/immigrants-applying-to-enter-us-legally-facing-longer-waits/

Republicans should take a cue from Fox News and do something about this problem ASAP. - Go GOP Congress!

[ In Reply To ..]
The Fox News' concern for legal immigrants is touching, and conservatives' concern for legal immigration is touching also. Conservatives should propose legislation forthwith and throw all kinds of goodwill and put forth a great effort to have these immigrants brought to our nation forthwith and as soon as possible. All the Republican controlled Congress has to do is take a vote and make some new laws and help all these people they are concerned about.

Call the bill....... Exodus II: Let those people in now! It's only fair!

Fox News is depending on you, Congress!

We're "not the same America anymore under BO." Let's make America great like it was before and just vote yes to legal immigration of all those legal immigrants on that waiting list. We can make this happen!

This has been a public service announcement by Fox News, the GOP, and concerned conservatives from all over what is left of America.

(sarcasm alert)

They're in Chile & his wife is Argentinian, not Mexican. Both countries lean left now, thus - the "must be saved" double standard JS

[ In Reply To ..]
I find it interesting Fox News is suddenly so concerned with helping immigrants make it in to this country at all, legally or otherwise.

Then I noticed for starters, we are dealing with people Chile and from Argentina, not Mexico, at least in this article. And as we saw in yesterday's comments, the US far right considers Argentina "communist" because of their strong labor party.

Jimmy and his wife are currently living in Chile. Since Chile has restored democracy since Pinochet and now voted for a female leftist president, Michelle Bachelet, I guess we must make haste and welcome all the "refugees" of this dangerous political climate as quickly as possible! ;)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michelle_Bachelet

Oh, but no one seemed to care when right-wing dictator, Augusto Pinochet ruled Chile with an iron fist, taking power in one of the bloodiest coups in the 20th century in 1973, torturing and killing an estimated 300,000 people. He refused to allow any form of protest by the people at all or risk death, except to allow the women to dance the Cueca one day a year, the dance of remembrance for those tortured and slaughtered under his regime. Thousands died or went missing every year.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Augusto_Pinochet

And do you know why the US didn't care?

Because guess who helped Pinochet?

The CIA released a report in 2000 revealing the US not only supported Pinochet's coup, but we provided military support during his entire regime, in order to fight the "evil" socialism (torturing/killing thousands of civilians in the process).

https://www.cia.gov/library/reports/general-reports-1/chile/

And guess who was the CIA director during that time and president later?

GEORGE. H. BUSH.

Yes, he and his son are truly freedom fighters, "defenders of democracy", who truly care about human rights violations (cough, cough).

Augusto Pinochet, whom the CIA has admitted we helped into power and during his rein of terror, died under house arrest for corruption and embezzlement charges, with over 300 criminal charges still pending, to include the actual murder charges.

And to be fair, corruption charges are now possible against Bachelet. However, she didn't murder thousands of innocent people, either :/

We didn't hear as much about Pinochet as we should have, during the Reagan/Bush administrations. (Gee, I wonder why.) I heard about him, but only after hearing this Sting song in high school and researching its meaning, not our news sources during the Reagan-Bush years of course:

"We Dance Alone" - Sting, 1987

https://youtu.be/MS_bN5ECJTI

"One day we'll laugh in our joy, one day we'll sing our freedom. And we'll dance..." (Transcends into pure jazz joy at the end:)

But now that they have restored democracy in Chile - yes, by God - we must hurry and get these 2 legal in the US to save this man and his wife from the evil female leftists in charge in Argentina and Chile immediately as a priority over Mexicans!

Where did it prove illegals are getting in faster - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
other than saying that it is taking longer to apply legally? Longer than what? The DREAMERs are supposed to be granted legal citizenship after an application process. Have they all been processed.

Did they compare 2 people who started from the same point. What is the same point? When the child was born as an illegal in the U.S.--15 years ago or so? Compared to someone applying how long ago?

False equivalency Fox. Better than a cup of coffee for conservative America.

Thanks for bringing this to light. - Dixie

Of course, the left is going to see it differently. A lot of them do not understand that BO wants to have more illegals in this country to increase the demoncrat voting base. They don't care about the damage being done and the lack of respect for the US Constitution.

Previously on this forum, the problem was immigrants "take our jobs", legal or not - Now it's who they vote for. THAT I believe JS

[ In Reply To ..]
So now the problem isn't that our jobs will be taken, it's that they vote left, I see ;)

That's the point I was trying to make in my above comment, however badly. The right's politicians and media feed us this garbage and make it about foreigners coming here and taking our jobs, then turn right around and act like they want to help immigrants get here faster legally (but only from certain countries?)

Well, at least that's more honest - because it's not about jobs - it's all about who they'll vote for when we help them in - and the right's just now figuring that out ;)

Well, at least the right's finally found a way to appeal to Latinos. Took them long enough.

Of course, the righties are going to see it differently. - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
A lot of them do not understand that illegals in this country can't vote. They just believe the Fox News right-wing propaganda machine even though it's been proven time and time again to be lies.

If these "legal immigrants" were being processed quickly into this country at breakneck speed like they're whining about, they'd then be whining about the Obama Administration moving quickly to get as many "legal immigrant" voters as they possibly could. LOL.

I wonder why they think "illegals" will vote Democratic but "legals" will somehow not vote Democratic? LOL.

Someone needs to tell conservatives that their Saint Ronnie Raygun legalized millions and millions and millions of illegals with the stroke his pen so they might want to rethink singing his praises so often. Saint Ronnie loved his illegal immigrants and told them when he was running for governor of California that they would get full benefits the minute they arrived across the border into California. It wasn't true, of course; they had to wait 5 years, but he encouraged them to come to California.

That Ronnie was such a great guy; he peopled the U.S. with Democratic voters. LOL.

What we do not understand - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
is the right's obsession with strange and bizarre conclusions such as this, other than blaming it on right wing media indoctrination.

Think back 15-20 years ago or so (when Ailes began Fox in the US), was conspiracy theory always the first conclusion?
