[ In Reply To ..]Without universal health care you would actually owe that amount if you ever got seriously ill and either weren't insured or after paying insurance your whole life the insurance company decided that your condition was pre-existing, or wasn't covered, or they coincidentally dropped you when you got sick, or you lost your occupational insurance because you couldn't work. So it all works out in the end.
Also, the national debt hasn't significantly devalued the American dollar because every other country in the world experienced a financial meltdown, thus devaluing all currencies. The lowering tide sinks all boats.
Finally, that figure isn't real debt. It is projected debt, which can be prevented from ever existing in the first place simply by raising taxes on all the moochers (1% or 47% depending on your personal preference) or cutting spending or investing wisely. Preferably all three at once.
The debt is a big problem and must be addressed as soon as possible, but it's not our biggest problem by far. If any of us live long enough to see our debt come back to haunt us, it might be a time for celebration.
