It's getting ugly

Posted: Feb 23, 2011

Rep. Michael Capuano (D-Mass.) at a union rally:  “I’m proud to be here with people who understand that it’s more than just sending an email to get you going. Every once and awhile you need to get out on the streets and get a little bloody when necessary,” he continued.

So, let me get this straight.  He's calling for getting a little bloody against citizens?!   This is absolutely unacceptable.

I guess the call to union violence has been made loud and clear.  Thugs unite!  Pathetic.  And they're afraid of the "radical, hate-mongering" Tea Party?!  Can you just imagine if someone - anyone - on the right had said anything like this?  First of all, no Tea Party member would call for it's members to go the streets and get a little bloody.  Second of all, the calls for their immediate resignation would be heard all over (and rightfully so).

Where are the calls for this radical U.S. Representative to step down immediately?

What makes metaphoric words - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
by liberals not violent and metaphoric words from republicans truly violent?

The real issue...which is being misrepresented by the mainstream media...is that without doing this, WI is going to have to lay off workers. This is about the budget people and I don't see how you guys cannot see that. Obviously many of you are so blinded by the rhetoric from the left that you fail to see the big picture.

So what is more important here? Union workers keeping collective bargaining or keeping 5K-6K people from being laid off?

Yeah, and what is ironic is that the people protesting - might protest themselves right into layoff!

[ In Reply To ..]
There is true ignorance for you. States across the country are going broke, and these corrupt unions holding the states hostage are huge contributors. Most people in America have caught onto this. They are no longer about protecting the little guy, but rather influencing them on who to vote for and feeding an agenda. Unions stink nowadays and are basically criminal.

The unemployment line could be next for these folks, but Nancy Pelosi will be happy. Remember this quote not long ago? "It is the biggest bang for the buck when you do food stamps and unemployment insurance." This is so sad. These people will be out of a job and their union leaders will continue to pull their nice paychecks, all the while "fighting for the little guy." Yeah, right.
Good point and sad at the same time. Looks like union - workers are brainwashed.

as well as some of its defenders here. My uncle belonged to a union for years and actually quit the company because he HATED the pressure the unions put on him, their dues, which he felt contributed to a political side he never represented, yet he unwillingly paid for. He was sickened by the union until he finally left the company altogether.

Speaking of blinded by the rhetoric. - sm

Ever heard of political grandstanding? Emotional blackmail? How about abuse of power? Walker is trying every trick in the book to get the dem reps back in town since he cant get to square one without them. Creating a phoney emergency need to lay off workers is nothing more than an impotent strong arm tactic aimed at shaming them back to debate what he describes as a non-negotiable bill, not to mention laying grounds for a future presidential run. Talk about gigantic ego. Dont expect much traction out of this maneuver. The man has talked himself into a corner and is squirming around to get out of it, plain and simple. There are SO MANY WAYS this is not about the budget anymore.

BTW, what say you on his refusal to accept all benefits and pension concessions, which would instantly balance his budget (according to his own words out of that big fat mouth of his)? That question has been asked many times over on this forum yet remains unanswered. Do tell.
Umm...no, Walker is telling it like it is. People ARE - being layed off in Govt work due to budgets
[ In Reply To ..]
Can you not open your eyes.. in denial.. what? You really need to start being honest with yourself instead of so BLINDED by your hatred of the other side. States are going bankrupt. Its happening right before you, yet you make up this grand story. Wake up! If unions get busted up during this process, so be it. They are full of corruption and are holding employees hostage now.

protests and Walkers not-so-hidden agendas. He had not been in office two weeks before he was handing out gratuitous tax cuts to his high-rolling contributors. His long past record of going after unions gives him zero credibility on the current stance he is taken. Now, kindly answer my question about his refusal to balance the budget by accepting benefits and pension concessions.

PS: Dont look for unions to "get busted up" anytime soon. One thing I can say I am grateful for is that Walker has managed to step into a big steaming pile of doo-doo with both feet and create a brand new campaign issue for 2012.
So when Obama hands out money it is okay, but not Walker? - WI MT
[ In Reply To ..]
Geesh! Not that I agree with your way of seeing things or even your assessment of Walker, but didn't Obama hand out billions in stimulus money and giving czar positions to his high-rolling contributors? GE anyone?

Walker gave tax cuts (he didn't throw money at bogus shovel-ready projects) like I have stated before to help get the economy rolling in WI so businesses would stop leaving for Illinois. Tax cuts actually help the economy while being held hostage to union thugs does not. Once again, we disagree here too. Conservatives believe in giving the money back to the people so they can create jobs and support the economy with smaller government while Liberals think the masses are too stupid to handle their own money therefore it must be taken and redistributed by the unions.

You actually think that giving in to union demands will help the economy. It won't. It will end up with more and more people being laid off, from the union. The taxpayer's pockets are broke. There is no one for the union to steal from any longer. The unions need to be broken up and I too cannot wait for 2012 so we can finish the job we started in 2010.

Your repeated attempts to highjack this post and take it in a thousand different directions only goes to show your subborn reticence and refusal to answer the question at hand: What say you about Walkers refusal to balance his WI budget by accepting all benefits and pension concessions offered which he himself demanded? Keep in mind that no answer is really all the answer any of us really need.

Giving the union collective bargaining - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
is not going to keep the budget balanced. What is to keep unions from bargaining next year and making things go up again. We have got to stop collective bargaining for the time being to make sure things don't get out of control again.

As for giant ego...look to Obama. You don't get more arrogant and thuggish than he is. But you all seem to be blind to that.

Unions have hurt our country and people have been blinded by them for too long. The only reason these democrats are sticking up for the union is because without the union....they wouldn't have all that money for their campaigns.
Another nanny-nanny-boo-boo post. - sm

Stripping unions of CB does not balance a budget. You are too caught up in your partisan rapture to know that you are being played. Guess you have not noticed how OUT OF THIS Obama has kept himself. Please take the rest of this rabid rant about arrogance and thuggery to the outer edges of the fringosphere. There is no sense in trying to reason with such propaganda-ridden poppycock.

Unions have brought us (and contributed toward) protective child labor laws, a 5-day work week, weekends, vacation, overtime and sick pay, health benefits, secure retirement, safer work places and equal pay for women and minorities...all decidedly American values we should take pride in. While folks in the Middle East are laying their lives down in pursuit of democracy, you guys are prepared to throw all this away on behalf of big-business and corporate interests, who outsource your jobs, hold you in utter contempt and would just as soon spit on you as to look at you. Amazing.
here is another - WI MI
[ In Reply To ..]
Obama commented on this WI situation sooner than he commented on the riots in Egypt. He is just afraid of his campaign money disappearing and by making unions optional he knows and so does the DNC that the unions will fall apart. Obama's own political arm was organizing protests in Madison. The only reason he backed down was he saw the negative backlash on the fleebagger senators and the MIA teachers. Too little, too late. He was all over this protest from the beginning.

I have asked this and you have not answered if this protest is about the money or the power. Collective bargaining would still be in place for those who chose to be part of the union for all those things you mentioned EXCEPT wages which would be determined by the CPI and the taxpayer in a vote. Stripping the unions would balance the budget because the state would not be held hostage to unreasonable demands by the unions for wages beyond the CPI. Two years from now the union could not come back to the state and demand back wages or some sort of compensation they felt they were entitled to. Plus by allowing the school districts to shop for health insurance instead of being forced by the WTEA to purchase from one place the school districts could save money too.
More like tpots trying to scrap unions since they - sm

are among the main contributors to their opposition partys campaign funds. Its pretty sad that the baggers cant come up with a candidate willing to go up against Obama in 2012 (self-preservation being the name of that game, since they know they would lose by embarrassingly high double digits in a historical landside). Even more sad is they feel they have to try to undermine a main funding source since they know full well that the 20-percenters cant win more than a smattering of local elections and a few seats here and there, based on the merits (or lack thereof) of their bankrupt agendas. The fact that you opened your big mouth and said this out loud in this post pretty much proves that point.

These protests are not about money or power, no matter how hard Focks tries to spin this message. It is about workers rights struggles fought for over the past 8 decade and the hard-earned victories they accomplished along the way. Let me tell you what this is decidely NOT about. It is not about some upstart tpot puppeteer with an exaggerated sense of self-importance presuming to hand down some declaration (as HITLER did in 1933) disbanding unions. One more time. Do not look for unions to go quietly into the night, period. This guy has bitten off WAY more than he can chew, as has his puny party.

I answered your question, now you answer mine. What say you about Walkers refusal to balance WI budget by accepting benefits and pension concessions that have have been offered? Huh? I cant hear you.

I have answered your question, you just don't like the answer - WI MT
[ In Reply To ..]
Thats okay I will let you think you are right. You are so blinded by your rage that you don't see the damage the unions are doing. Walker campaigned on fixing the budget and standing up to unions and he is doing just that. He needs more than just token $$ paid in for benefits and pensions. He does not want the state to be held hostage to unrealistic demands by unions. He wants to fix the problem for good, not kick the solution down the road. By leaving collective bargaining for wages as an option he only gives the unions the power they wanted all along. He wants to give local governments and school boards the ability to balance their budgets too by not paying 80% or more of their budget in salaries and pension and benefits.

It is about the power, I just wish you could admit it. Of course the union will cede money and throw their members under the bus, but they want to keep the power. The union leaders know if membership was optional they would have no one left.

The Republicans have the votes and this will pass or 12,000 people will lose their jobs. Budget crisis solved.

Honestly I am done debating with you because your leftist rage is seething through and I am offended by your demeaning term of honest, hard working, taxpayers who are sick of being taken advantage of by people like you.
No you didnt, but Walker sure did in his taped phone gaffe. - Straight from the horses mouth.

You do realize unions take dues to give to the Dems? - KL
[ In Reply To ..]
How that is legal is beyond me. Obama did start running his mouth in the beginning stating something about assault on unions, then he realized it was backfiring and shut his ignorant mouth. Unions are holding the country hostage, not helping it! They are also so full of thinking they deserve entitlements that no one in the private sector gets. Its ridiculous and shameful. Its bringing the country down at this point.

You can't be serious. After Tuscon and the speech from the president? Pointing out the call for violence is now considered a fake outrage and distraction? No, I'm buying that one. Nice try.

It has all become clearer to many people. The American voters told the progressives "no, we don't like your agenda" back in November in a historic upset. The progressives are now crashing and burning in a big way.

You got that right, but dont hold your breath expecting - any of that to sink in. nm

and what rights exactly are those? - WI MT

[ In Reply To ..]
The right to bully and whine like little kids when asked to pay for some of their benefits? What about the rights of the taxpayers? All collective bargaining does is bully the government into taking from the taxpayers to give to the unions who then funnel it to the democrat party in order to keep their people in power so they can continue to take more money from the taxpayer. When exactly did we become a nation of entitled? What about those union people who are forced to be part of a union and dues are stripped right out of their paycheck? What if they want to say no to the union?

If you would do your research collective bargaining would be left in place for everything but wages. And those who choose to be part of a union could do so, but it would not be mandatory. So is this really about the money or about the power?

Oh, and don't assume it's the "same old tired Fox drivel." Has it been on Fox? I honestly don't know, but I would guess that Hannity will be all over it tonight.

I watch Fox, yes (I like Cavuto). I also watch CNN sometimes when I'm really bored (not much there to see anymore). I watch MSNBC too. I watch Rachel and Lawrence a few times a week, but I really can't take too much of Schultz any more than I can take too much of Hannity (can't watch him).
