I guess it is about fairness - bootstraps

The economy still grows according to your article, albeit slower.
But letting the Bush tax cuts expire for the rich is going to happen.
I attached an article regarding what happens if Congress doesn't extend the Bush tax cuts on the middle class and the fiscal cliff scenario, but here's a paragraph:
"There is, of course, an easier solution to this problem: do nothing. Let the tax cuts expire on 1 January, with taxes going up on every American. Then, Congress can quickly pass a massive tax cut for those making less than $250,000, retroactive to 1 January. Neither side will want to wait long and force Americans to pay higher taxes, but especially Republicans won't – as they will likely be blamed if no deal is swiftly reached. To do so would mean that all sides are politically satisfied: President Obama can say he stuck to his word about raising taxes on rich Americans, and taxes will have gone up without Republicans having to cast a vote; and both parties can reap the political benefit and claim credit for having cut taxes for the middle class."
If they truly wanted fairness, ALL income tax would be a flat tax (sm) - anon

Set an amount of say 10%. Anybody who makes a dime would pay this, no exceptions, no deductions, no loopholes, companies and individuals alike.
Or the fair tax - SM

You pay when you buy goods, everyone pays, with some allowances up front for those who fall at or below poverty level. That way everyone using the system would pay into it, even those here illegally since they would still have to buy items. Seems fair to me.
I wish you guys would read a little about it. Learning - by sad experience is stupid, and it's

not like plain old "flat" taxes haven't been around for many centuries. We know all about what happens to the little guys under those systems. BTW, keeping them as "fair" as they CAN be?
They have to be adjusted constantly to keep them as "fair" as they can be, which at base always means the poorer you are the more of your income you pay. To keep the flat tax from hitting us bad in short order is like keeping water flowing up hill. It can be done, but only if you work constantly at it.
Do you watch national tax policy constantly? Do millions of others? Because EVERY time our "reps" in DC failed to make adjustments needed to keep it as "fair as it can be," the wealthy would benefit by paying LESS.
when you realized you'd been suckered, again, you'd have to wait, yes, YEARS for enough people to be mad enough to insist on restoration of the adjustments required at the federal level That--unaccountably :)--stopped being made while you weren't paying attention.
It'd take a while because many would be working hard to keep you from getting active. You see, when a flat tax system is out of whack, a system that automatically makes the rich richer and the poor poorer revs into higher gear and really starts shoveling that income upwards. That means lots of people are going to be lying to you to try to keep you from cluing in. And making it hard to fix.
So, why not read a little about this and decide if it's what you want before you sign us all up for this disaster? If you don't like redistributing your income elsewhere, stop insisting that it be done by the wealthy for the wealthy. Whether it goes to someone on welfare or to people so wealthy they don't even notice you or those on welfare, it's YOUR money, and it's GONE.
I have read plenty about the fair tax - SM

and I like. It does take the govt out of your pocket and gives you much more control over the money you earn.

Fairness Between SiblingsApr 01, 2010Looking for some opinions on the matter below. Have a pre-teen and a toddler. In-law grandparents do not keep gifts (or their time/love) even between the children. I know you can't keep everything even-steven all the way between kids, especially not with a preteen who is difficult to buy for and a toddler who doesn't know any different. With this being said, it is very aggravating to me that time and time again my younger child is not treated equal to the older. ...
