This can also be seen in action from anti-Trump protesters.

On the other hand, my conservative friends and I held a discussion regarding the bathroom controversy. There were many opinions, although the most commong was that it seems to us that it is simply common sense that if a person has undergone gender reassignment or has worked to live, look, and feel like the opposite gender, then it would be idiotic to force that person to use the bathroom of their original gender. I'd rather use a bathroom with a woman who was born a man yet I'd never know it. Sure, predators will use this as an excuse, however, most transgenders are simply not predators. Completely off on a tangent there, however, just an example of what can happen when all opinions are voiced and considered. Those among us who staunchly rail against allowing transgender to use the bathroom of their choice did not scream, swear, or try to beat us; they held their ground and we had a civilized, lively discussion. And we're all still friends! Imagine that!

If you've undergone the full monty to change your gender, that's one thing. As you say, one would probably not even know that a male-to-female was in the next stall.

But these laws aren't written that way. They're worded in such a way as to allow anyone who merely "identifies" as a certain gender to use that restroom, and that is utterly unacceptable because of the multitude of problems it sets up.

You are in a private stall. You think a real - guy is going to take advantage in a bathroom?

I avoid public restrooms any way but I cannot see how someone would lay in wait in a bathroom to accost someone. An accoster will accost anywhere.

Don't be defensive. Public restrooms are notorious in this regard, not only for sexual offenses but other crimes such as robbery and even homicide.

Rather than stubbornly adhering to an erroneous position, just take a bit of time and effort to inform yourself. It might save your life someday.

The people who wrote these laws are more confused about gender than the people who are confused about gender, and I'm starting to get confused myself. I don't know whether I need a good cry and wine cooler or go 4-wheelin' with a keg and muh huntin' dawg.

Laws need to be better defined. A man in a dress does not equal transgender. A man who has undergone gender reassignment or lived as a woman, thinks and feels like a woman, should also be considered transgender. The entire situation is going to become ugly unless better laws are put into place. I think a lot of the uproar is a simple lack of understanding and very muddy laws.

I think if legislature were more clearly defined, most people wouldn't have a problem with it. I first thought transgender was an aberration and sign of mental illness until I educated myself and tried to understand how these people feel. Now, I understand and do not discriminate. It's not for me, but I have no right to say it's not for someone else. I'm not that arrogant. But, you're right, without legislature leading us, well, there's going to continue to be problems.
