I can't wait to see what he (and his advisors - obviously the poor dumbo needs help) come up with, most probably again skirting the issue of discrimination against homosexuals.

This guy is only comfortable expounding in settings where everyone "understands" what he means without having to say anything, he's not used to scrutiny, and he's not dealing with it well at all.

Yeah, like he didn't know the loophole of "legal shunning" just days before - the Final 4 Natl Tournament

[ In Reply To ..]
Please. He's clearly backtracking because this is about money. Sorry, I don't believe Mike Pence is that stupid, he had to know that some conservative businesses would use the new law to legally discriminate against gays and that it's not just Dems "misinterpreting" that law. Because even in the first thread on this subject below, it's very clear many conservatives would like the legal right to shun gays as private business practice under religious freedom law! No. I don't believe Mike Pence et al didn't know it would be abused. The only thing I believe they "didn't know" was the magnitude of the backlash. They really thought they could sneak this loop-holed law past right before the Final Four in Indianapolis, this weekend, and no one would care because having fun at a basketball tournament would be more important to them, since people had already bought tickets and booked rooms. No one could say anything during the tournament if they were discriminated against because now it was legal or in the process of being legal! But they were wrong. Because there's been a larger-than-expected commercial and public outcry over it, including canceled travel plans, companies talking about pulling ads, and even the NCAA themselves talking about how they could legaly move the tournament venue over it, this late in the game. Mike Pence figured out his state will actually lose money over it now if he doesn't fix this and soon. He got caught, plain and simple.

Religious freedom? OK. But I don't know what religion some are following because it ain't Christianity. Because Jesus stood in front of a prostitute rather than allow her stoning/shunning by others sinners and she definitely CHOSE her sin. And Paul says: I Cor. 6:9-10 "Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor THIEVES nor the GREEDY nor drunkards nor SLANDERERS nor SWINDLERS will inherit the kingdom of God."

Which means any Christian sinner-by-nature who supports deceptive, loopholed law because they truly believe it makes it legally okay to throw stones/slander/shun other sinners, over money, are just as sinful as homosexuals, according to Paul and Pharisee law.

And didn't Jesus bypass Pharisee law to heal lepers on the Sabbath? Lepers, who at the time, people believed had leprosy as the result of sin! And didn't Paul refuse to incorporate the Pharisee law of circumcision into Christianity? Both did so because they considered those man-made laws and not God's direct commandment law. Which means man-made Pharisee law is then ALWAYS suspect to our discernment. In fact, the entire point of Jesus' message of healing on the Sabbath despite law was that Christian compassion is supposed to over-ride such man-made Pharisee law in cases like this! Paul the sinful human, on the other hand, later turned Timothy over to circumcision just to please the Pharisees so they wouldn't crucify him, too, something Jesus, our actual Messiah, would never do. Shades of Mike Pence for initially passing this law, anyone?

So that'd be sin x3 for any Christian supporting a deceptive law they at least believe has a loophole that legalizes "sinner shunning" on Christian grounds, according to Pharisee law: Slander, greed and swindling. Make that sin x4 for Mike Pence for breaking an actual direct commandment of God by bearing false witness IF he's lying about "not knowing" what private business would be legally be allowed to do under religious freedom law, right before a very lucrative national basketball tournament held in his state.

We ALL sin and fall short of the glory of God, every single one of us. We are saved by grace ONLY, not works, don't ever imagine otherwise.

[T]he Indiana statute has two features the federal RFRA—and most state RFRAs—do not. First, the Indiana law explicitly allows any for-profit business to assert a right to “the free exercise of religion.” The federal RFRA doesn’t contain such language, and neither does any of the state RFRAs except South Carolina’s; in fact, Louisiana and Pennsylvania, explicitly exclude for-profit businesses from the protection of their RFRAs.

The new Indiana statute also contains this odd language: “A person whose exercise of religion has been substantially burdened, or is likely to be substantially burdened, by a violation of this chapter may assert the violation or impending violation as a claim or defense in a judicial or administrative proceeding, regardless of whether the state or any other governmental entity is a party to the proceeding.” Neither the federal RFRA, nor 18 of the 19 state statutes cited by the Post, says anything like this; only the Texas RFRA, passed in 1999, contains similar language.

Where is the outrage and demand of pork lovers against kosher deli's or Muslim business to shut down?

Where is the outrage against Muslims who believe in killing gays - why not storm their mosques, demanding Muslims sponsor, participate, perform (pick your word) in gay marriage, otherwise, face boycotts of their businesses, picketing, forced closure of their businesses?

There is no outrage by any left wing extremists except towards Christians and Christians alone...which is the true meaning of discrimination.

Liberals do not keep their mouths shut regarding abuse of women or gays of any religion. Crimes against women and gays are prosecuted here in the U.S. under U.S. law, regardless of the religion of the perpetrator.

Your analogy about kosher delis and Muslim businesses doesn't make sense. We are all free to set up a shop of our choosing, be it religious or not. Atheists don't storm Christian bookstores. People don't go to kosher delis to demand pork. Gay couples ordering a cake can't demand that a boy toy jump out of it. You are mixing your metaphors here.

As for the outrage, I don't think any is warranted.

Your answer perfect description of only the Christians - being attacked for their beliefs

they would not single out just the Christians, which is exactly what they did.

You mean to tell me that the ONLY business a gay person could go to the entire city, state in which they lived was a Christian business, knowing full well their beliefs on homosexuality?

Why not go to a Muslim owned floral business, catering company, hall rental, etc. and DEMAND that the Muslims accommodate them? Because Muslims would cut off the infidels head, scream like maniacs about tolerance (they do it all the time now and the left buckles like a stack of cards), go to the press.

Why not demand a kosher deli provide you a pork dinner at your gay reception?

Bottom line - there no shortage of secular businesses with absolutely no faith mechanism used for the moral compass....go to them and get what you want and leave the discriminated, abused, harassed Christians alone - just as you want the gays left alone.

This is the same bogus garbage that Dems pulled with the faux war on women.

Wow - no kidding! No pork in a kosher deli - that was the point
[ In Reply To ..]
Since there seems to be so little understanding of the Christian faith, I will try to enlighten.

Christian business owners are to operate their business in a Christian manner. Yes, we all know there are some that do not, as in every other faith.

If you are a Christian, your beliefs are based on the Bible. It is clearly stated that a union is to be between a man and a woman...period. There is no other union acceptable in Christianity.

Christians forced and/or sued to provide **wedding services** to gays goes against their religious beliefs.

It has nothing to do with selling someone a loaf of salt-risen bread, a pie, a bread stick.

It has EVERYTHING TO DO WITH BEING FORCED OR SUED TO PURSUE IN WEDDINGS THAT ARE IN DIRECT CONFLICT WITH YOUR FAITH.

As clear as that is, pretty sure there will be some that will not get it because they do not want to...just only want to force their POV over someone's religious beliefs.
Here's the difference - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
If a deli is kosher, we know they don't offer pork. If a restaurant is Indian, we know they don't offer beef. There is nothing inherently Christian about bakeries in America.

The other thing is this: A kosher deli and an Indian restaurant are free to offer what they offer. You are free to buy it, whether they regard you as a sinner or not. They cannot refuse to serve kosher pickles to gentiles, or Chana Masala to cow-eaters.

I disagree, but I'm a Christian. And Christian Amish sell to everyone without discrimination - That means we're leftist?

[ In Reply To ..]
Even if that were true, then there would be NO difference between left extremists wanting to force by law service to gays and right extremists pushing by law NOT to service gays? However, it's NOT true. Because THIS particular law it's the right, this time, trying to force things by law!

Sorry, I won't be TOLD what to think or get outraged over by either the right OR left, nor will I be told by other Christian sinners that I should support this law as a Christian.

FYI, as a Christian, I don't support Christian Extremists OR Muslim Extremists, who imagine they speak and represent ALL Christians and Muslims, and that's what people think about them as a whole just because extremists shout the loudest and do horrible things to others in God's name. But it doesn't mean I "hate" either or that I am not a Christian because I disagree with you or this law. Because though some things make me mad, I'm not always looking for something to get mad over.

Is there a lawsuit between a gay couple and a bakery in Indiana a the basis for this law being passed? I see lawsuits in other states over that, but I don't see that in Indiana. If so and I missed that, I apologize. If not, then the left nor anyone else forced anyone in Indiana to pass this law.

As for the rest, I admit, I don't understand your point, I'm sorry.
Here we go again. Nothing was said about only the "NEW" - law. The point again is
[ In Reply To ..]
the ONLY faith ever sued for not participating in a gay marriage, in any capacity, because of their faith beliefs were Christians. Christians are the ONLY faith expected to put aside their beliefs to participate in something that clearly is against their religion.

Cannot make it any clearer than that. NO ONE stands up to Muslims pushing gays around, or sues them because of how the Muslim faith treats gays.
P.S. Law suits against Christians not only in - Indiana
[ In Reply To ..]
nm
See what ur saying but let's be clear. No such lawsuit exists in Indiana that forced new law - which is the thread topic
[ In Reply To ..]
I honestly got confused, thought I must've missed where this started over a pending lawsuit with a bakery in Indiana or something, seriously, no joke. If that had been the case, I's see your point. But it didn't happen in Indiana, it happened in Seattle, Washington. Nobody in Indiana is suing a bakery or any other business over this stuff. So you can't blame gays or leftists nor anyone else in entire state of Indiana for "forcing" this law but the right themselves, simply out of FEAR they might get sued for discrimination and wanting to be legally protected in advance.

Ok, I understand that at least. But not really. Because before this law, though gay marriage was legally recognized in Indiana and other states, people hadn't challenged private business yet until some idiots decided to sue over it and push for law. There was no precedent law set. So why not wait for the results of those lawsuits in other states where people ARE forcing the issue before passing pre-emptive law? Because forcing this issue by passing law by the right looks just as "forced." And passing law actually makes it easier for people to sue, not less, even take it to the Supreme Court.

I understand what you're saying about Christian extremists being the only ones sued, that's true, but my point was, maybe Christian extremists are the only ones refusing to serve people on this basis? And the reason I can't find a single case where American Muslims or Amish were sued is because I can't find a single case where American Muslims or Christian Amish ever refused to serve gays anyway, much less complained about feeling forced to, in ANY state. Then again, I'm not sure gays would go to muslims or the amish for catering anyway. Don't think we're going to agree on this one, sorry.

Where would some "Christians" be without their persecution mentality? - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
There are laws in every state of the Union against assault, physical abuse, and killing of anyone, including one's spouse, regardless of race, creed, religion, color, etc. Left wingers do not differentiate: Killers are killers, spousal abusers are spousal abusers, and so on.

Anyone of any faith who is looking for specific laws against certain groups is going to be disappointed with "left wing extremists" or the left wing in general for that matter. Left wingers don't like labels because labels divide people into classes, but anyone who believes that left wingers are not equal opportunity enforcers has not been paying very good attention.

As I said, killers are killers. That includes people like Jim Jones and his Christian ilk with the laced Kool-Aid and Osama bin Laden and his Muslim ilk with their hijacked commercial airliners used as projectile weapons.

ALL extremists, both sides, are mentally ill. The problem is that many are heading towards those extremes, Christian and Muslim alike. Westboro, Fundamentalists on the Christian side, ISIS and Al-Qaeda (bin Laden) types for the Muslims.
Yes, Jim Jones was a Christian - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
I think many Christians feel a lot better about themselves by merely labeling Jim Jones mentally ill and not "one of us" because that's so much easier than admitting that some Christians do some non-Christian things in the name of religion. I am a Christian, and I can assure you that I was not trying to paint a picture of all Christians with what I wrote there, exactly the opposite actually. I was just merely showing that every religion has their share of killers and "bad actors" and that liberals would not blame Christianity or Islam or other Christians or Muslims for the actions of some....... killers are killers.

Liberals wouldn't blame all Muslims for the actions of bin Laden or ISIL any more than they would blame Christians for the actions of Jim Jones, David Koresh, Sun Myung Moon, Matthew Hale, Marshall Herff Applewhite, or Fred Phelps and the Westboro Baptist Church.

Jim Jones and those others are Christians. Putting a crazy label on them is easy. Realizing that people who share your faith do things that are not Christ like involves introspection and admission. Christ would not shun a leper or a prostitute. The vicar of Christ on Earth is not refusing to serve gays. He is doing what Christ would do.

Americans enjoy religious freedom and legally have since 1791. The Supreme Court is widely expected to hand down a decision mid year that legalizes gay marriage so therefore many Republican governors are trying to get laws in place now. The GOP is famous for this politicizing of religion to frighten their base and get their base agitated and active, but it is 2015 now, and they're not going to get away with justifying hate, bigotry, and intolerance on religious grounds any longer.

Since most of them truly worship at the alter of money, the foolish political demagoguery is over now.

I'm an atheist but I agree with you 100% - Calling spades spades

"Participating" - Empirelady

[ In Reply To ..]
A business is not "participating" in a wedding unless they are actually attending as guests or the wedding party. A business is simply performing a service to a customer. The couple isn't looking for a "blessing" from their vendors. More likely than not, if a customer feels hostility toward them from a proprietor, they'll go elsewhere, and rightly so as that would be extremely poor business practice. Out and out denying them service because of who they are as human beings is a whole different kettle of fish.

I agree with the Amish being a good example (though there are many, many businesses who actually follow a nonjudgmental approach). Do you think they ask each and every customer who orders their furniture, say a bed frame, how they are going to use it? No, of course not. That would be silly.

It's quite simple. Either a for-profit business is open to the public, or it isn't. If one wants to discriminate, then they need to have a private club where only approved members can use their services. Otherwise, we're right back to the Woolworth lunchroom counter days.

One cannot compare no shirt, no shoes, no service (sanitary reasons) to denying someone because they were born the way they were. Doing such indicates one thinks God made a mistake in creating that human being. Personally, I don't think He makes mistakes, but that's just me. Being gay is not a choice. They are who God created them to be.

Hmmm...Nov 03, 2010
At the top right hand corner of page 17 of the New York Post, January 24, 2009, was a column entitled, "Replacing Michelle" in the National Review, The Week. Here it is below as it appeared: "Some employees are simply irreplaceable. Take Michelle Obama: The University of Chicago Medical center hired her in 2002 to run 'programs for community relations, neighborhood outreach, volunteer recruitment, staff diversity and minority contracting'. In 2005 the hospital raised her sala ...

but I'm smiling of course.  For heavens' sake just don't choose him in the primary, though. Even if he'd be a sure loss if he did somehow make it, that's way too close to the presidency to even joke about. "The idea that the Crusades and the fight of Christendom against Islam is somehow an aggression on our part is absolutely anti-historical. And that is what the perception is by the American Left who hates Christendom. ... What I'm talking about is onward Ame ...

"Hamilton" Actor Harasses Pence On Stage, Nov 19, 2016
Vice President-elect Mike Pence took in the hit Broadway hip-hop musical “Hamilton” last night in New York City. As you could imagine, he was booed when he entered the theater in the deep blue state. But it gets worse. The performers actually took a stance against Pence, as well. For real. The vice president-elect was greeted with a mix of cheers and jeers as he entered, and exited, “Hamilton.” And in between, he received a lecture from Brandon Dixon, who plays Aaron Burr in ...

Liberal Signs Inciting Violence...go Figure...hmmmApr 24, 2010
Lots of threatening posters below along with burning life size dolls of PRESIDENT Bush. In recent weeks, the media have focused a lot of attention on anti-Obama signs showing up at town hall meetings and Tea Parties from coast to coast. Without a doubt, some of them cross the line of decency. However, the press's outrage is quite different than what happened when protesters carried offensive signs threatening former PRESIDENT George W. Bush. To refresh the memory of the conveniently amnesia ...
