That's so polite! How rude! Oh wait, um. Nevermind. Following another country's custom does not make one subservient. Unless one is extremely doubtful of one's place. Now, can Obama be full of himself and subservient both at once? I know some would say yes ^^ Makes no sense, though.
Another non issue!

He obviously never read the book on protocol - Old and Tired MT

The POTUS does not bow to anyone. A handshake is required. Obviously, this president is so worried about apologizing to the rest of the world for the success of the US that he doesn't care whether he follows protocol or not. He is a total embarrassment to this country. I truly believe he would LOVE to see this country fall and become another Third World country. His policy is to redistribute the wealth and everybody is supposed to be exactly the same. Hmmm, seems to me I have heard THAT ideology somewhere before----.

Yes, he IS an embarrassment... He makes me cringe, - and none of his policies are working either.nm

And both Bushes and Reagan? No bowing allowed? Or is that a new rule just for Obama?

Oh my, you are on the fringes aren't you. I and all my friends...sm - nosa

interpret his actions differently and are proud of him for elevating the respect other countries have for us. How dare you question his patriotism! In a very short time you will be biting your tongue. On the subject of ideology, maybe the man who said "do unto others"? What a sham you are.
Defend him all you want. Obama shows his ignorance more and more - He is an embarrassment to the USA.nm

Europe for the whole month of October and the respect the people in European countries has greatly increased over the past year that Obama has been president. So, I do not know how you judge that Obama has been an embarrassment.
So glad you know Europe loves Obama.. He is weak..and what policies - of his are working, huh? NONE. nm

You should try it sometime. nm - oldtimer

Where is this "book?" - Can you cite

[ In Reply To ..]
a reference? I have looked and looked and all I'm finding is a bunch of outrage with nothing to back it up. I would be surprised if there actually were something that said the President of the United States should not observe foreign greeting customs when visiting with foreigners.
LOL ! The book of common sense.. Apparently, Obama - never read that one either. nm

Nope, those of us who - have

Wrong. When not born with common sense, like Obama, - need to educate and read to learn. :)

He won't, though. It would get in the way of his huge ego.
I hope you have a - library card :)

My boyfriend is Japanese and he said . . . . - emanon

it is absolutely the respectful, traditional greeting for everyone. Get over it, people. Put your energy into something other than hating.

It is so disrespectful to ignore the customs when you are a guest in another country!!

all over him for NOT kneeling. This is so petty, and it might be even funny if it wasn't so sad.
He didn't kneel, he bowed, a traditional Chinese greeting. nm - nosa

Another confirmation that he has no experience - and an embarrasment

[ In Reply To ..]
Someone really needs to inform him it is not the custom of America to bow to people who are supposed to be your equal. I understood why he bowed to the King (even though a US President is supposed to bow to no one), but then he is not the King's equal. But this bowing thing. It is not an American custom.

When he was first elected I used to think he looked the part of a statesman. Now he proves otherwise.

I really wish one of his advisers would tell him the custom in America is to shake their hands. It's really showing how inexperienced he is.

Have you ever heard "When in Rome"? He was...sm - nosa

[ In Reply To ..]
following the custom of the country in which he was a guest and he did me proud, actually showing how experienced and statesmanlike he really is.

Try googling Obama's bow to Japanese leader. - Japan is terribly embarrassed by it.!..geez.nm

In my opinion...what a load... - of bull-doggie

[ In Reply To ..]
The term "When in Rome" means to experience a culture and "fit in" a little better and not stick out like a tourist or outsider.

He is "supposed" to be the leader of a country. When he bows he shows the world he is not.

The president is suppose to bow to no man. The people who bow to the leader is the people of that country (i.e. the people whom are underneath the King/Emperor of their country). Since P.O. is not a citizen of Japan he should not be bowing to the Emperor of Japan.

P.S. - He was not in Rome. He was in Japan (embarrassing us once again)

3 1/2 Months So Far In Cam BootNov 20, 2009
I saw my PCP today and he asked why I still had the boot on 3.5 months after I broke my foot.  I told him the bone had pretty much healed but I have a peroneal tear and damaged muscles, tendons, etc.  Every time I go to the pod doc, he asks how it feels, I'll tell him it's still painful, he tells me 2 more weeks in the boot and charges me my $35 copay.  Well, M.D.'s don't think much of foot doctors and he told me to see an ortho doc.  I got an appt. for Mo ...

Our Democracy Is DyingDec 15, 2014
In case anybody hasn't noticed, democracy in America is dying now. This isn't an overstatement; it's a fact. Corporate interests dominate our politics so much at this point that our government, for all intents and purposes, is merely its handmaiden. Whatever Wall Street wants, Wall Street gets. Corporatism is the new order of the day. One political party stands for it; the other political party won't stand against it. The word inertia means the tendency of an object to move ...

Announcement: The US Is No Longer A Democracy. Sep 08, 2016
...that is little different from the feudal system that existed in England at the time of the American Revolution. No, we don't designate "lords, ladies, dukes and earls" as such, but have no doubt that they exist. No, we don't have a king...or do we? Thomas Jefferson knew something about the insidious ways in which power becomes concentrated in the hands of the few, and used in ways that benefited the few to the disadvantage of the many. He predicted that every generatio ...

In The United States, Democracy Is A LieApr 20, 2013
Do you ever wonder why it seems we’re always having the same fights over public policy? Why is it that after we get off our butts, stand in line for hours at the polls, cast our ballots, and are told we “won,” nothing seems to get resolved? Aren’t elections supposed to have consequences? What happened to “We the People”?Americans grow up believing they live in a democracy, indeed the world’s greatest democracy. Too bad that’s a lie.Consider gun con ...

Our Democracy Is Not Working AnymoreNov 01, 2016
I am amazed how lies and innuendo can possibly steal an election.   1.  FBI director coming out and saying there might be a problem (but has not even seen the e-mails). 2.  The Birther's who wanted to disenfranchise our country's first black president.  3.  The Swiftboaters throwing manure on a Vietnam vet, Kerry.    (Makes me think of Trumps 'bone spur' that kept him out of the draft and Trump saying he doesn't like vets who get cau ...

Democracy Requires An Educated ElectorateMar 02, 2016
I recently learned that the reason education through high school in our country was "free," (though obviously paid for by taxes) was because in order for democracy to work, you have to have a well-educated electorate, i.e., you can't turn over the decision-making process to people who are not well informed.  Looking at the demographics of the Trump supporters, which reveal that so many are NOT well educated, and not well informed enough to see that a President of the United States ...

We know about the Obama DOJ slush fund funneling $billions to leftist organizations, which is a violation of Fe ...

Good News For Believers In Representative Democracy.Nov 07, 2013
The question was, would angry Democratic voters turn out for a midterm election? The GOP was betting it all that they wouldn't. Well, angry black voters did. Approximately 10% of the population, they were 20% of the voters who said Get Lost to Governor McDonnell and his would-be successor Ken Cuccinelli.  Even more specifically, angry black women voters turned out. 91% of them voted for McAuliffe/against McDonnell. I'm sorry to say white women actually cut strongly for McDonnell, ...
