Bain bus tour. sm

Posted: Sep 28, 2012

A coalition of current and former employees at companies purchased by Bain Capital will spend the next month rolling through the swing states of Ohio, Florida, Pennsylvania, and Virginia protesting Bain's business practices and the economic plan of its founder and longtime chairman, Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.

I feel badly that people lost their jobs in some of the Bain Capital ventures. I really do. But at the risk of sounding harsh, it's important to remember that these people would have likely lost their jobs anyway. Bain has also done a lot of good for companies and the people who work for them.

As for the current Guitar Center employee quoted in the article.... Don't like what you're making at your current job? Go out and look for another one that will give you want you want and think you deserve. If they're out there, you'll find them. But I'm not sure going on a bus tour to denigrate your current employer is going to serve you well in the long run.

MTs should have a bus tour of Senators who blocked American Jobs Act - sm

The Senate voted 50-49 to block Obama's jobs package.

The jobs plan, which the president has spent much of the last month touting on a cross-country tour, fell well short of the 60 VOTES (SIXTY VOTES) it needed to proceed.

All of the Republicans present on Tuesday voted against the motion.

Democratic leaders held the vote open to give Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) a chance to vote for it, a move that highlighted their desire to show the package winning as many Democratic votes as possible.

Shaheen voted in favor of the measure later on Tuesday night. She arrived at the Capitol late after receiving a civic award in Boston.

Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) missed the vote for medical reasons.

The only Democrats to vote against the measure were Sens. Ben Nelson (Neb.) and Jon Tester (Mont.),

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) originally voted in favor, but changed his vote to 'no' in a procedural move to keep open the option of raising the issue again without filing for cloture.

Or GOP Senators for blocking jobs for returning vets, whose - unemployment rate is around 35%! NM

Has the Congress made Obama's term in the White House difficult? Yes. But not always without good reason.

Republicans and Democrats have different ideologies on how to best create jobs in this country and Republicans are naturally going to oppose Obama's tax and spend policies. When you read the details of some of the bills they've blocked and some of the inclusions buried within them, it doesn't surprise me at all that the Republicans would oppose them.

The fact is that both parties have become polarized and have become less and less willing to negotiate and compromise with each other. One party is no more innocent than the other.

Agree somewhat, but only the GOP has brought us - to the brink of disaster economically by refusing

to take any legislative action that might incidentally benefit the Democratic Party, no matter how desperately needed. The Democratic congress, far from blameless, has been much more willing to cooperate and accommodate, even eager because that is required of a two-party system for it to get anything accomplished.

Even after we come through this, our standing in the world can never be the same. We have proven too dangerous and irresponsible to be allowed the power we've had over other economies, and in foreign policy. Other countries have been disconnecting from us as much as possible for the past decade. And that is by far the fault of intransigent conservatives.

Bravo! Nothing could be more true. Hopefully, Obama's resolve and demeanor have helped restore our standing. At least, I think he has helped.
Thanks. I think we surprised and gratified the planet when - we elected him, a statement louder than words. NM

More Bain OutsourcingAug 10, 2012
For those who like myself who thought the issue of Bain outsourcing was back in the past a few years back, here is a current story. This company in Freeport, Illinois, is shipping the factory to China and the employees have been spending their last few months training their Chinese replacements. I think that is so cruel. Interesting comments too - "Mitt Romney saying 'I have nothing to do with Bain's management' is like Pablo Escobar saying 'I don't grow coca bush ...

Healthcare Giant And Bain CapitalAug 17, 2012
Great article about healthcare giant, HCA.  HCA was founded by Thomas Frist Jr., brother of former senator William Frist. It is now owned by three private equity firms, one of which is Bain Capital. In 2010, while the rest of the economy was tanking, the three buyout firms benefited to the tune of 1 billion dollars each. Any thoughts about how this involvement impacts Mr. Romney's approach to healthcare reform?  ...

Romney's And Bain's Offshored Millions Parked InJan 18, 2012
This might help explain Romney's stalling until after April before releasing his tax return, which would give him just enough time to restructure his portfolio in ways voters may find, shall we say, a bit more palatable.  A fascinating read showing why some might consider him to be the "poster boy" for everything that is wrong with the US tax system and for OWS fair share proponents.  The more the shroud of secrecy is peeled back, the less electable he app ...

Sporting a crisply starched, long-sleeved Cuban guayabera atop prestigious LDS “endowment” undergarments (literally signaling his “Annointed One” persona) while on an overt Latino community pander mission, Mitt revisited fertile fundraising grounds, where he had made well documented lucrative deals with despotic El Salvadoran death squad financiers back in the early 80s.  According to “The Real Romney” author, Harry Strachan, Mitt had been worried about p ...
