And so it begins - Walgreen's

Posted: Mar 18, 2010

Of course, everyone by now is familiar with the New England Journal of Medicine survey: 46.3% of physicians polled are thinking of leaving medicine (probably retiring early, like mine). Others, of course, will simply not accept patients on Medicaid/Medicare. But wait - there's a "doctor fix", isn't there? It's supposed to take care of the Medicare/Medicaid payment cuts, and it's $210 billion. But guess what - they didn't include the doctor fix in the HCB because that would have thrown the CBO numbers "off". Just another example of voodoo accounting by the Democrats. 1. Double-counting the "Medicare savings" - which, incidentally, is supposed to pay for almost half of the HCB, except it's spent on something else. 2. Ten years of taxes matched against only 6 years of benefits (payouts)...when you match up the years, the thing falls on it's arse. 3. "Doctor fix" as a separate bill with $210 billion not included in the HCB. You democrats are going to pay for this, and you're going to pay bigtime. Just ask any of your own strategists if you don't believe me.;

Your subject line is deceptive (big surprise). Give the facts. - nm

What, are you liberals all practicing for that glorious day when you sign the Armistice and commit harikiri? Debating with you is like trying to debate with a bowl of oatmeal.

...and I mean COLD oatmeal.

Ummm, did you happen to read the - article?

[ In Reply To ..]
Or maybe you didn't understand. Do you understand Medicaid and how it is run, and did you notice it is one state?
I read it, too, and one sentence stuck out like a sore thumb. - Nikki

Doug Porter, the state's director of Medicaid, said Medicaid recipients should be able to readily find another pharmacy because "we have many more pharmacy providers in our network than we need" for the state's 1 million Medicaid clients.

I have a "PS card" that I printed for free from the internet, and it provides good savings when filling prescriptions -- UNLESS one tries to use it at Walgreen's.

It's amazing this one little free card can contribute so much, but it does.
This is state, not federal ~ sm - Anoni~

Sadly, it's my state which claims to be going broke.

Medicade is welfare medical. You do not need to be on welfare to receive Medicade, just have a medical condition and the inability to afford treatment. You pay $0 for everything. It's different from Medicare, which is a Federal program and generally requires a copay.

I dare say that if our government got out of the back pocket of the drug manufacturers and we got the prices that other countries got for drugs, instead of 4 or 5x the cost, there would be no problem...so I guess in the long run it *is* the Feds fault!
Actually, Medicare is jointly funded by State and Federal. (nm) - Nikki

What was so deceptive? She posted the title of the article - My my....a little sensitive are we?

So what is the problem? Do you want us to change the headlines of the news articles now so that everything will look Rosy.

Definitely not the OP's fault. It's the headline of the - article that got

her excited and she didn't post the link which didn't help matters. Hopefully she will re-read the article without being so excited over the headline and understand it isn't the "oh boy now I get to be the first one to rub their noses in it" she obviously thinks (or hopes) it is. Doncha hate it when that happens? :(

by the libs. Notice how they call you out or jump all over you if you are not part of their agenda. Everything is fine and dandy when they do their drive-by headlines, insults and snarky comments, not to mention name-calling. It has been pretty apparent over the last few days, can't for the life of me figure out why they are so angry and hate-filled. Well if this HC crap bill passes, maybe they can seek anger management therapy. Lord knows they need it.

So you think it's okay for the liberals to be so nasty and hateful in their posts to anyone with a difference of opinion then them? Calling them derogatory names and drive-by insults.

I've been almost afraid to see how the Republicans on this board will act if this bill passes. I expect them to pop their collective corks because it seems that they are the ones who are the most bitter, angry and provide the worst insults to anyone who doesn't agree with them.

I'm honestly not trying to insult or attack you. I truly see it this way, you truly see it the opposite way, and there doesn't seem to be any "wiggle room" between the two opinions.

I just wonder how an entire country of Americans can see things so differently.

A reply - half agree, half disagree with you - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
As much as you are afraid how the Republicans on this board will act if it passes, I have also been afraid to see how the Democrats on this board will act if it does not pass.

It's funny to me that you say bitter and angry. Why did you choose the word "bitter"? I've heard that a lot but only by democrat progressives. Kind of one of those scare tactics used by calling the opposite side "bitter, angry, racist, neocon, nazi, etc".

Please Nikki, I am asking you in sincerity to please be objective and read the posts on this board. Both sides have been insulting. I myself was called an idiot by someone below. And for what? Because I had a difference of opinion. Reading on this board the liberal/democrats are calling people all sorts of nasty names. Yes conservatives too but reading the posts I'm seeing liberal/democrats calling people dimwits, stupid, ignorant, etc. (actually I don't know who called someone dimwit), but over and over I'm seeing stupid and ignorant. So please accept the fact that both sides are name calling. And there are some very venomous posts, which happen to be by liberals/democrats. Not saying conservatives don't but it's both sides. If you can't honestly see that then the only thing I understand about that is that you think it's okay for your side to call people idiots, stupid and ignorant, but nothing is supposed to be said back.

I too wonder how an entire country can see things differently. I have a hard time talking with my mom and refuse to discuss politics with her. She will go off with her hate speech about Bush and how she hopes he dies, etc, but when you have something in writing, and written by a person in her party, but it says something wrong going on, and you show her it in writing she won't even look at it. She then tells me its a propaganda piece written by a Nazi Republican.

I think the last administration really divided this country, but unfortunately this administration is doing nothing to fix it. It is as if the last administration didn't leave because the problems we had back then are just continuing on in this admin.

All in all I think everyone wants the same thing. We all want jobs, we want a decent home, education for our children, a little bit in the savings, a decent health care plan that we can afford and that it will accept everyone and not ditch anyone due to a condition they have. Unfortunately I do believe the health care will pass. Just read on Drudge they are only 6 votes away. Honestly I do not truly know what that will mean. I don't like the idea of other people forcing people to buy something they do not want. First it will be health care, but then what's next? If people are healthy and they pay money when they go to the doctor (like I do), even though I have a very very very crappy health care plan and I have to pay for everything out of my own pocket unless I go through 10K each year, then people should be able to decide for themselves whether they want to buy health insurance or not. I myself should have that option. I could put that $500 I pay to the insurance company into a savings and save it and use it for doctors visits, etc. So instead I pay them %500 AND I pay for my own doctor, dentist, eye visits and my DH's too. What is fair about that? I would love more than anything to buy the same coverage I am getting only at a rate that Indiana, KY, Idaho or one of the other states has.

I think what it is is not that people are bitter, I think we are angry that our elected officials are not looking out for our best interests. They are spending money and there is no end in sight. What they are doing to us will not affect them, and they said it loud and clear when they won't even be subject to the same thing they are enforcing on us. We pay taxes and vote we have the right to be angry when we see our government acting like spoiled little children with a blank checkbook. Then I hear that hundreds (I don't know how many exactly) are not even paying taxes. My God man (in my best Bones McCoy from Star Trek accent) what is wrong with that picture.

I see liberals/democrats are angry that people are upset with what is going on in Washington. They would rather we be good little robots and just do what we are told and not say anything. Everything happening is affecting our lives. Why is it okay that people during the Bush years, called him liar, Nazi, Hitler, Joker, Dubya, said they wanted him dead, and questioned the war and everything else that went on during the last administration but now because it's a democrat we aren't supposed to say a peep?

I don't know...it's just a sad sad time in our history right now.
I did not have time to read your entire post but - wanted to weigh in on the
[ In Reply To ..]
beginning. I agree that both sides are guilty, absolutely but have also always felt that the Cons here were worse. I wonder now if it might be that we tend to scan the subject lines and then focus on reading mostly our own posts (ie, libs focus more on people who will agree, repubs do the same). Perhaps this accounts at least to some degree for this discrepancy. I would bet that if we were to all try and actually read all the posts (as if we had the time) and not just our own, not just the subject lines, we would probably be about even in the name-calling department, which is never okay from anyone as far as I am concerned. And, yes, I have been guilty of this as well at times.
Will read the rest later, but just wanted to throw that out there. Hope HCR works out for all of us.
Good post. I think you're probably right. (nm) - Nikki

What you wrote, to me, seemed like an honest, heartfelt attempt to communicate. Thank you for that! Smile

I'm going to try to respond paragraph by paragraph, with the same honesty you showed in your post.

If HRC does not pass, I personally won't be angry (well, maybe a little), but I will mostly be profoundly sad and disappointed. And, in all honesty, if I see gloating Republican posts that denigrate President Obama, I will think it grossly unfair since he is trying to HELP the average American citizen. He would have been able to help ME, and I need that help.

I used the word "bitter" because that was the first emotion that entered my mind. However, I don't understand how the words "bitter, angry, racist, neocon, nazi, etc." can be considered "scare tactics." Scared of WHAT, exactly? For what it's worth, we've been accused of having no morals, not believing in God, being socialists, etc. and a myriad of other personal insults that are worse. The word "bitter" was the first thing that came to mind, but I suppose the word "angry" would be a close second. (Reading down in your post, I see that you also feel the word "angry" is appropriate.)

I concede your point that both sides have been nasty. However, I see it more as a tiresome response to insults that have been thrown by Republicans to individual posters as far back as before the "Watcher" days on this board. I do see them (for the most part) being started by the conservative side, and the liberals are responding in kind. (I know this is an area where you and I will continue to disagree.) Maybe the poster above had it right about what we see when we read posts on this board. For the record, I don't think you're "stupid" or a "dimwit" or any of the other negative names you mentioned. As I said in the beginning of this post, I think your post was great, and your heartfelt sincerity and honesty shone through the entire post.

Surprisingly, my daughter and I usually agree concerning politics, but we have a tough time talking about it because she's afraid she's going to lose the benefits my son-in-law has through his work.  And they have GREAT benefits, including a low deductible and co-pay, and a separate "Visa" type card for $2,500 that they can use for non-prescription type items like thermometers, band-aids, etc. at the drugstore. We are still able to have friendly discussions, though, and I sincerely hope your mom comes around and will start to remember that you're her DAUGHTER and maybe the disdain that she reserves for other conservatives shouldn't be aimed toward you.

I think almost EVERYONE is mad at President Obama. The conservatives are angry because they don't want healthcare reform. If they did, they had plenty of time to provide it during the Bush administration. Instead, Bush chose to provide universal healthcare to the Iraqis. I really objected to that at the time he did it, feeling he should help out his own people first.

The progressives are angry with Obama because they feel the bill is substandard. I think these are mostly people whose first preference would have been single payor. (I fall into this category.)

The conservatives (in my opinion) simply don't want any kind of healthcare reform, and this is evidenced by the fact that they never even discussed it when they were in power. I personally believe the Republican party is for corporations and the richest of the rich, and they couldn't care less about the "little guy." Again, this is my personal opinion.  As far as Obama dividing us, I truly believe he wants to help the "little guy," and if both sides are angry with him, maybe he's doing something right! Smile

As far as the President not doing anything to fix things, there is troop draw-down going on in Iraq as I write this. (I heard this on the news last night.) Just because we can go in, in a reckless way, doesn't mean we can leave in the same fashion. I believe he's doing the best he can, given all the problems he was left with, to help average Americans. He is certainly not afraid to put his presidency on the line to go with his conscience, and this is one of the reasons I like him.

I couldn't agree more with you, that all in all, we all want the same things, and my crappy insurance plan was very similar to your crappy insurance plan! Smile When I had to make the choice between my health insurance OR my RENT (my premium went up to more than $700 a month with similar deductibles and copayments to yours), I was forced to drop my health insurance. I'm not really sure how I feel about payment being mandated, but if one of the problems is that uninsured people use emergency rooms and incur those kinds of charges, why should everyone else continue to be forced to pay for that? I'm forced to pay for auto insurance, and I can't go 20 minutes while watching TV when I don't see an auto ad claiming they're the best. We don't see this with health insurance because they're robbing us blind and hold a monopoly in this country. The President's plan would provide for "children" being able to stay on their parents' insurance until they're 26 years old, and there seems to be a very generous income limit/premium limit ratio so that people CAN afford to have insurance and so that it's no longer a choice between rent/mortgage payments and health insurance.

I personally don't like the bill because I don't think it goes far enough. However, I'm willing to support it because at least it will become LAW. Laws can be amended, and this thing (I think) can be "tweaked" until it represents what most of us want.  At least, the foot is in the door.

I agree that you pay too much for too little, and if you use the calculation table (found elsewhere on this board -- I don't remember where right now), you'll be pleasantly surprised. I truly and honestly believe that, not because I'm a "good little robot" but because I truly in my gut believe it will help you -- a lot!

I agree with you that it's a sad, sad time in our history right now, but I also feel that things will get better. I also heard on TV last night that with tax credits for small businesses, that might free them up to give you a RAISE, instead of making a living harder and harder to do.

All I ask is that you give it an honest chance. If it stinks, I'll be the first person to vote against Obama, because the main reason I voted for him was his stand on healthcare reform.

I think I addressed everything in your post.

Again, thank you for such a wonderful post. I wish we could all have civil discussions with each other that include reasons for our positions and that we could replace hostility with an open mind -- on ALL sides.  With all the emotions listed between our two posts, maybe it's just plain old FEAR that is fueling this impending train wreck with each other. Maybe things aren't being detailed appropriately enough and just leave us with more questions than answers.

In any event, thank you for your post, and I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Smile

everything you wrote. I just hope that "anon" saw my reply to her fantastic post, since I was a little tardy in responding, and now the post is pretty far down on the board.

As far as insight, I think that's an important part of trying to understand each other, and, unfortunately, it is often missing on this board.

Again, thanks very much for your post.
