Report: Nearly Two Thirds of UK Millionaires Fled Country After Tax Hike According to the Telegraph, âin the 2009-10 tax year, more than 16,000 people declared an annual income of more than £1 million.â After Gordon Brown introduced 50% tax rate before the last general election, that number dropped to a mere 6,000. In addition, the tax increase actually âcost the UK £7 billion in lost tax revenueâ as wealthy Britons moved their wealth abroad. Foreign entities even engaged in advertising campaigns to lure British millionaires away. ;

[ In Reply To ..]I think the court is WRONG. That money belongs in escrow for the finality of bankruptcy court, not in the top executives pockets. I could see it if they had worked their fingers, butts, and brains to the end to forestall bankruptcy, but I'm not hearing anything about that.

Once you have an element of your society that has decided it is above and outside the law, no longer cares about the social contract and then spends all its time complaining about how it doesn't receive enough from everyone else, despite the fact that they have hundreds of times the amount necessary to live, there's nothing you can do. The rich have become a money pit and we have to stop throwing our life savings in.
In Buddhism, there are supernatural beings called Preta that are sometimes referred to as Hungry Ghosts. They were jealous or greedy people who ended up spiritually corrupted by it. The preta are afflicted with a constant, gnawing hunger that can never be sated. In art, they are often depicted as being simultaneously bloated and emaciated, with tiny mouths and throats symbolizing their inability to get enough.
Unfortunately, a great number of the rich have become the physical embodiment of this ancient concept and it's socially dangerous. The rich threaten that if they have to pay even a tiny bit more, they will fire us or outsource our job or lower our pay or make us go part-time or just leave the country. Meanwhile, they want entitlement programs like offshore tax shelters, tax loopholes, subsidies, government grants and untaxed inherited wealth so they never have to give back to the society that created them. They usually don't work as hard as people paid 1/100th what they are and they have been proven repeatedly to not know what they are doing with our money or have any care about the sustainability of their financial practices. They are welfare queens, pure and simple. Holding our money, retirements and livelihoods hostage is a cheap scare tactic and I for one don't negotiate with terrorists.
This is why we need a collaborative effort around the world to raise taxes and strip the citizenship of any businessman who deals mostly in outsourced work. Why be American if you don't really work here and you have no interest in the country's survival? You can still visit, just don't stay too long or INS will send you back to the third world. Once they have the choice between paying 3% more tax or living in Nicaragua with their slaves, they might have to grow up and act like adults.
S.C. Lt. Governor Andre Bauer had it right a couple years ago when he said that feeding the poor was like feeding stray animals and it would just encourage them to breed. He just got the rich and poor confused. We have got to stop feeding these strays. Also, remember to spay and neuter your local rich people, we can't possibly feed any more of these fat cats.
