Call someone you can talk to. Take a walk and breathe.

I won't say that every day is a struggle but it happens frequently, especially as a single person living in a rural area, kids grown, friendless, etc. While it's not the same, and as stupid as it sounds, I believe my dogs saved my life, as they give me purpose and I have someone who depends on me. Working two full-time jobs, I don't have the time to volunteer or by the weekend I have too much to take care of to lose anymore time, but if you can, I think anything that helps you make a difference in another living creature's life can be a great salve for the feelings of isolation and irrelevance that can be a particular hazard in this suddenly uncertain at-home career. Remember that there are hotlines for that, and maybe just reaching out to someone else can provide you with better ideas.

Thanks for being so up front about this topic. What friend would like to hear any of us talk about this? The most important thing that keeps me going are my cats. They would die of starvation without me. No one else would care, so I do. It is this something that I "HAVE" to do that keeps me getting up in the morning.
saying your dogs saved your life Does Not Sound Stupid; - dogs are therapy; mine make me happy daily. :) n/

my dog spent most of my MT career with me until we had to put her down in February with cancer. I miss her every day. There is a big part of my life missing now.
There is one waiting for you in a shelter; find her/him. - n/m

There is so much truth in what you posted, and YES. . animals give us a purpose and unconditional love. There is nothing foolish about that. This is the reason so many reitrement homes and nursing homes allow pets now. They lower blood pressure, have a calming effect, and give us someone to care for and someone to love. They serve mankind in many, many marvelous ways.

Actually, I believe that IF and WHEN I think it's time to check out, it's my decision and mine alone. Not a doctor's. And certainly NOT a politicians's or a religious group's decision. It's MINE.
I'm a terrible procrastinator. I've kept the final decision at bay by continually moving it to the back burner. Will never close the door on it entirely, but even if I'm feeling close to the edge, I'll end up thinking, Oh well - maybe TOMORROW I'll do it. Today I've got other stuff to take care of, first!
it is an option, during days unbearable. - keeps us bearing.

At age 32, after 20 years, came to the realization that wanting to kill myself, daily, since age 12, was not normal. Normal meaning healthy. I had always been an avid walker and had animals. But I checked myself into a psychiatric hospital and met people on staff who were like me, and very helpful because they had been there. Other suggestions right on--breathe, exercise, find a purpose in animals or people. Even if you feel bad, someone is worse off and can use your help. The only problem with that, I find, is that it helps to have your feelings validated. Sometimes we need that before we can more on to help someone else or volunteer. You are not alone. Keep logging on and expressing your feeling and asking for help. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Would This Hurt Your Feelings Just A Little ?Oct 03, 2010My sis-in-law (my husband's twin's wife) and we have just loved this baby girl to death. I buy clothes, jammies, make her hairbows on cute little headbands, a jacket, etc, I took off work to take my sis in law to the doctor for her 2 week checkup after having the baby when she couldn't drive. I checked on her when hardly nobody else did. She doesn't have a mom or dad. I would pick something up if she needed it and take it to her. Her husband even ...
Interested In Your Thoughts/feelings AboutJun 29, 2010This is not exclusively political, but since it pertains to current national events, I am posting here.
I am interested in hearing any and all thoughts/feelings/ideas/frustrations regarding the Gulf oil disaster.
I myself am stunned that we have been unable to prevent the oil from making land-fall. I am not a babe in the woods, but I do believe that America brings huge resources to the table in terms of brain power and horse power.
