Honey for a cough

Has anyone heard of this or do you do it?
My girlfriend just told me her pediatrician told her to give her DD honey for her cough.
I did a search and see that it is an old remedy.
Do you use honey instead of OTC cough meds?

[ In Reply To ..]Did you know that honey is the only known food that does not spoil? It is good for all kinds of things. I had a very sore throat, tried other remedies and then remembered my father had gave me some honey. Worked like a charm.

[ In Reply To ..]It can be used as needed, no overdosing or side effects, and honestly, it WORKED, especially hot lemonade with lots of honey. The old timers had some really wonderful and reliable remedies! It is natural, so it is better than OTC or RX meds, and when my kids would get a cough in the winter, I used to make it for them in their little sippy cups, and it worked like a charm, they still ask me to make it for them in their teens. It is worth a try, it is natural!
Home remedies - Dad always gave us - just me
[ In Reply To ..]Karo syrup (that clear syrup we used to put on pancakes). Worked every time. I love Karo syrup to this day too.
Also he gave us ginger ale if we had an upset stomach. If that didn't help then he knew we needed something stronger, but usually the ginger ale made us feel better. To this day I also love ginger ale.
Speaking of home remedies...does anyone ever remember an elixir called Father John's. I was born in 1960 and as a child mom made us take a spoonful every day before bed to help us keep healthy. I guess it worked cos I don't ever remember being sick as a kid. Wonder if any one else remembers this.

[ In Reply To ..]Years ago had a family friend who was a pediatrician, said mix your own cough syrup, 1 teaspoon each honey, lemon juice, and gin. He was serious. Never gave it to the kids but it works for me and worked for my ex. You could put it into a cup of Lemon Zinger tea and it is delicious as well.

Who is watching Honey Boo Boo? I had some reservations about the show when it first previewed with Alana's "You better rednexiingnize us." It is interesting because Barbara Walters named "Honey Boo Boo" as one of the most interesting persons one year. For those who do not watch it is a story of "red-neck" family living in McIntyre, GA. There is a quite a bit of room for criticism on how they live and talk but at the end of the day I think they are a nice family ...
