noisy knees

Posted: Mar 19, 2013

Quite suddenly about a year and a half ago my knees started with this awful crackly noise when I bend them.  No injury or anything.  Since then it has become much worse.  I haven't been to the doctor about it because they don't hurt.  I'm thinking about taking some Osteo-Bi-Flex to see if that helps.  It's expensive though.  Anybody have any experience taking this stuff, and does it work?

My doctor says you need to exercise all the muscles around the knee in order to stabilize it. Various forms of leg lifts help me here. Squats are not good for me.

The glucosamine/chondroitin (Osteo-Biflex) seemed to help at first. The canine version really seemed to help my dog. The one thing I started thinking about, is that if you take this stuff for your knees, where else in your body is it going?

Anyway, I have been experimenting with the "smoothie" drinks with fruit and vegetables blended up with soy protein and yogurt. I think this is helping. I read that cherry and grape juice may help arthritis so I am adding that. Also have tried adding pectin (sounds kind of hokey, but I am desparate). Diet and exercise is helping some.

I figure I will end up having knee replacements someday. Have had a "trick" knee since I was a kid and jogging and bench step exercising did not help. Be gentle with yourself.

If you can't afford it (and it takes forever to work) you can get Knox Brand liquid formula. Knox gelatin works just as well in helping cartilage.

Arthritis Pain In KneesNov 22, 2010
I was diagnosed with arthritis in my right knee in January and I cannot believe how fast it is progressing.  I now have it in both knees.  Transcribing makes it really ache because of the foot pedal.  I take Vicodin but some days that doesn't help and sometimes it makes me very sleepy.  Does anyone know of anything else I can try?  This is really affecting my ability to get my line counts and therefore my income.  Thanks! ...

Question About End Stage OA In Both Knees (sm)Feb 21, 2016
I have bone-on-bone osteoarthritis of both knees.  I need to lose weight before they will do a replacement.  I am 69.  My calves hurt when I walk, not just the knees.  They seem very stiff.  Is this a result of the OA or is it probably something else? ...

up from a sitting position especially.  I have to stand there a minute to get moving.  Stairs are even hard.  What can I do to keep them bendable?  Is it better to keep bending and exercising them or trying not to?  I hate getting old.  I just hate it.  I'm feeling sorry for myself today. ...
