Ultrasonic Jewelry Cleaners

Posted: Nov 8, 2015

Hello all. Does anyone know anything about ultrasonic jewelry cleaners? My main question is do I need to buy the "detergent" with it? I was on the Internet, and I can't seem to zero in on that. The ads say "just use plain water," but then there's always detergent for sale with it as a bundle. Also, is there really a difference between a $30 one and a $50 or up one? This is not for commercial use, just for home use, so it's not going to take a beating or anything.;

Had one 20 years ago, used the detergent. - anon

When I first got engaged I bought one to clean my ring. I used the detergent they sold with it. I think it does work well, but I got tired of using it after a few years, got busy with married life and babies and wasn't so obsessed with how my jewelry looked. I now use a spray-on cleaner that I bought on one of the TV shopping channels, but really rarely clean my jewelry anymore.

What I use - is

a liquid cleaner that has a basket in the jar/bottle that you drop the jewelry in, swish it around a few times and then dry off. I then use a polishing cloth. These work very well for gold and silver.

Thanks! - From OP

Thanks! I have a diamond ring and a few other doo-dads, and my husband has a couple of nice rings as well, so that' mainly what we'd be using it for.

Just Curious About JewelryMay 05, 2014
After my divorce in 1994 I started buying my own jewelry second hand primarily at pawn shops, on ebay, and from Craigslist since the retail markuup is 100% to 200% (and don't get me started about my niece-in-law). In any case, I see a lot of diamond rings on Craigslist that people say they have paid a warranty on, keep getting dipped, and have checked regularly every 6 months. Is this some new con by retail jewelers?  Aren't diamonds pretty much indestructable?  What a ...

Jewelry Store Sign Prompts Same-sex Couple May 22, 2015
A same-sex couple from St. John's is upset after discovering the jewelry store that sold them their engagement rings has posted a sign that seems to oppose same-sex marriage — but one of the store's owners says he's allowed to post his religious beliefs. When Nicole White and Pam Renouf went looking for engagement rings a few months ago, the pair couldn't find anything they liked. The couple was eventually referred to Today's Jewellers in the Mount Pearl area becau ...
