Do you like when a total stranger calls you, "honey", "sweetie", "baby", "darlin", etc?
;

NO, not at all, it's creepy and very intruding - no

I know it is more used in the south, her in the northeast it is not used much, and if somebody says it it sounds really weird.
A NO from me.

It depends upon the sex, age, and background of the person doing it. - NM

I absolutely hate it. I'd like to say "and don't call me honey," but I don't want to be rude.

Its degrading. I once yelled at a boss for calling me - one of those terms. -sm

She called me "honey", and I told her to either use my name, or please not talk to me at all.

She chose the latter, which for me, was actually the better of the two choices.

I'm from New Orleans and that's just the norm there. EVERYONE calls you honey, sweetie, baby, darlin', angel . . . men and women. I lived there my whole life until 4 years ago when I moved out west. I honestly had no idea it was just a southern thing. Now I have to make a conscious effort not to do it since men here take it a little differently than back home (lol).

I was at a hospital lecture once and a woman from New York said that she came down for vacation and the tour guide kept calling her baby and honey. She took it personally and asked him out! They eventually got married and then she found out he was just being southern (lol).

So no, it doesn't bother me. I actually miss it.

what a nice and funny story! I still don't like it, never use these words - lol

I feel stupid, it's like telling me that I am a "blonde." Or hit on.

I think everyone nowaday's is just way too - uptight about every little thing.

I don't mind it at all, of course I am from the south also. Guess we just grew up being called these names so don't really think much about it. I don't do it to strangers, but don't mind if other people do it. **this post should be under "uptight about every little thing..."

It's a southern thing I guess....sm - blondie

I am used to it living in the south. That is just what people do here. I can see how it would make someone uncomfortable that wasn't used to it though.

I've live in the south my entire life and I don't like it - wannie

at all. I much prefer being called by my name. I don't get all bent out of shape about it, I just don't care for it.

It really does not get me bent out of shape... - beNice

I try hard not to call anyone those, little annoying names. But, I do believe that when we get older we tend to pick up habits of our older southerners. I agree with those from the south, it seems that it has been a way of life, especially here in Louisiana.

Now, on the flip side, I do miss being called baby (my partner of 13+ years passed 10 months ago and I miss hearing him call me baby (I know that is not what you were talking about thou). He never called me honey, because he said that I would be the perfect woman if it wasn't for my mouth....I was not always so sweet (smile)...

Interesting Obamacare-inspired TermsAug 08, 2013
There's a couple new terms "29ers" and "49ers": 29ers are folks who once have full-time jobs that are now being cut back to 29 hours a week so the employers can keep their doors open rather than bear the crushing costs of ObamaCare. 49ers are those in companies that used to have a little over 50 employees but have cut back to 49 for the same reason -- to get in under those ObamaCare thresholds. ...

Obama's Paris Agreement In Simple TermsJun 02, 2017
Today the Obama Administration will sign the Paris climate agreement at a ceremony in New York, a move that is projected to severely impact the U.S. economy with ironically negligible impacts for the environment.
