Rain in Northeast

Posted: Sep 7, 2011

Another day of rain today for so many of us in the eastern part of the country.   My stepfather called and told me it is the worst he has seen in his neighborhood.   Part of the yard is fenced off for Tiny, and thankfully it has not gone to that area yet, but I could tell he was concerned.  He told me not to "go out" today.  I think he meant not to come up to the house, as he said it is now pooling in the back yard and between the homes in his development like a lake.  He said just one area in the front of the house is about 15 feet wide and deep.  My brother moved to San Antonio, Tx in January, and they are crying for rain.  Wish we could give them some of ours.   I told my stepfather to watch my little one when she goes out!   I get nervous thinking of them in bad conditions.  Just had to say that.   Stay safe everyone!

P.S.  Several months ago Morry (our Amazon parrot, age 42)  started saying "Oh, my God!"  My stepfather said she said that this morning!!   (She sits by glass sliding doors looking out onto the yard!)

It has rained all week. School was one hour late today, and this afternoon flooding closed 3 roads. My road flooded today too, pouring cats and dogs right now, expect school may be an hour or two late tomorrow, will see. Finally down to a 30% chance tomorrow and supposedly a dry weekend. Our backyard is one big squish, lucky the rest slopes down on both sides and we live on top of a hlll but backyard is basically flat. Trees are falling on their own now just because the ground is mush.

Same here - Christine

I live in York, PA. We were also in the direct path of the storm. Parts of York County, Lancaster County and Dauphin County were hit really hard. It is terrible to see the destruction and heartache this flooding has caused and will cause in the days ahead. You are right. The ground simply can't absorb anymore rain. Take care.

Earthquake In The Northeast!Jun 23, 2010
I've only felt three earthquakes in the 40 years I have lived in Upstate New York.  I guess this was based in Ontario and we felt it all the way down here!  I hope they didn't sustain too much damage.   TV says it was a 5.5 up there.  Felt the whole house sway.  It felt like I was having a dizzy spell, but my husband felt it too.  I was far away enough to be excited about it - so cool!  But I hope nobody got hurt up in Ontario! ...

Trick Or Treat In The RainOct 28, 2009
I have been fortunate that every Halloween has been dry as a bone, but this year it is almost certain we will get some rain!  I am looking for some tips from people who have been trick or treating in the rain.  I have a 3yo, 4yo, and 5yo if that helps.  I figured I would just do the umbrella thing and maybe go to the local mall, but my 5yo daughter wants to go to houses so bad.... she actually told me "but mom, houses are our bread and butter."  That was kind of funny. Thanks ...
