Pesky cat picking on my cat. Is there something

Posted: Aug 18, 2011

a person can do to keep a cat away?  I know the is answer is probably because cats do what cats want to do.  This cat is big 'ol black cat and is always in my yard, lurking in the shadows.  He or She is kind of creepy.  I have two female cats, both spayed.  I didn't think female cats fought, not like male cats do anyway.  The other night my cat came home with a big gash behind her ear and she was obvious walking like she was sore.  I know it was that black cat.  My other cat hasn't had a problem because she kind of has the attitude that she's not going to waste her time with any other cats.  She doesn't play or really do much of anything, just observe.

This black cat though is a real problem.  Not only is he/she beating up my cat, but comes up on my front porch at night and my little Westie sits on the back of the couch looking out the front window and just goes crazy barking.  I'll go out and shoo the cat away, but he always comes back.  It's like a game.

So what do I do?  Anything?  Or am I just stuck dealing with this big bully cat?

well I do pet rescue and what we tell people is to do a couple of things -

1. Put plants around that are strong smelling such as geraniums, garlic, lemon verbena, etc.. you can ask at your local garden store.

2. Cats do not like water - when you see them turn on a sprinkler or spray the with the hose - not hard put just get them a little wet.

3. Cats do not like to walk on coffe grounds, eggshells, or foil, put some on your porch/deck and they won't come up.

4. Make sure you do not have any food or water sitting outside - that is just an open invitation to come on over.

I hope this helps.

if you haven't done so, try contacting neighbors and see if the cat belongs to someone, if so tell them to keep it in their yard. If not, contact the animal services and ask for a trap. Keep your cats inside for a while (they'll have time to heal). That cat is obviously trying to establish it's territory and run your cats off. It doesn't know that the yard is yours and doesn't care. Make sure that there is no food, water source or warm fuzzy place for it to sleep in your yard.

I had to get a trap when a bully cat was also invading my yard. it actually killed my young cat, bite and scratched my little poodle and sprayed and pooed everywhere. It was a ferral cat and caused problems because it was aggressive. You can work with the ferral cat society in your area to see if they can spay/neuter and re-home it, or relocate it. Other than that, it will be captured and put down.

You have to take your cats health into consideration first. Ferral cats carry a lot of diseases and your animal has already been injured and therefore exposed. I hope you are able to solve this problem. It's always weighs heavily on our hearts to deal with strays and ferral animals... We do the best we can.

Do you live in an area where it is safe to - have your cats SM

outside, i.e. no chance of getting hit by a car, etc.? If not, I don't think it's a good idea to let them wander. It breaks my heart to see dead domestic animals on the side of the road. I wonder if the black cat is homeless. Hopefully, some of the ideas above will help solve the problem. Maybe you could put some posters around the neighborhood describing the cat and ask that the owners call, although if they are letting the cat roam and get in fights, they probably don't care.

I really can't help with the cat situation, although I sympathize. However, I have the most wonderful memories of our darling little Westie on the back of the couch. She would have barked her little head off, too. If you look up the word "adorable" in the dictionary there should be a picture of a West Highland White Terrier. I miss her terribly. Good luck with the cat problem!

Cats can't stand water or aluminum foil, so those were two great ideas at keeping the little bully away.

Plus, maybe the cat is a stray, and I'd go around the neighborhood asking around. You could call the Humane Society for ideas and if the cat is a stray, they'll take him, maybe supply a cat trap for you.

I love cats and dogs, but when one is a bully, he/she makes the other critters' lives pretty miserable.. I can certainly sympathize with you.

About Picking Up Restautant Food And TipMay 10, 2010
We were talking at my office about picking up restautant food, and whether or not a tip is justified. Example, if you call in an order to a restaurant like Claim Jumper (citing an example a co-worker used) and you swing by to pick it up on the way home, would you tip? Technically, you're not in the restaurant and getting service. Typically, a tip is given due to the service provided by the waitstaff. I said maybe one would be justified if you stayed parked and they brought it to you. I usua ...
