DWTS... ****????

Posted: Nov 17, 2010

Okay, anyone else shocked (and maybe dismayed) that Brandy went home last night?  I'm not a Brandy fan (she's a little bit too high strung for me), but she, along with Jennifer, surely deserved to be in the final 2.  Bristol Palin HAS improved in the last 2 weeks, but she should have gone home 3-4 weeks ago, if not earlier.  Just sayin'...

Careful what you say about Bristol. I mentioned that a few weeks ago and got hacked to pieces and somebody turned it to politics. I totally agree with you and it has nothing to do with politics. She just can't dance!!!!!

I'm with you - sm

I am far from a Brandy fan and, in fact, didn't want her in the final- I didn't think her acting/performance was all that good although she does seem to get the technique (not sure who I would have rather had in her place). But 'Bristol the Pistol'?!?!?! I think the judges probably about choked, too.

I periodically swear off the show anyway after one perceived flaw or another, but I hope to God that the weigh the judges score heavier than the popular vote in the finals, because if by some injustice that teen advocate takes home the trophy, I will have to put it on my blocked programming list to save myself future agony.

I will also stop watching if Bristol wins - because she isn't a good dancer and Brandy is - Something went terribly wrong

Bristol is likable enough, even though she rarely shows any personality. I was rooting against Brandy, because her attitude at the beginning was really obnoxious, but that changed dramatically. I was rooting for Crystal to do well, but it just didn't happen. Her dance last night was pretty enough, but certainly not at the level of the other semi-finalists. I love Bristol's partner and he has done a really good job with her. It just wasn't possible to get her up to the level she needs to be at this point in the competition.

bristol - no more DWTS for me

It's been all over the news, the reason she's stayed on I mean. Sarah's supporters are bombarding the phone lines so she's got a huge popularity vote. They say her popularity vote is the highest ever for the show! That's what's keeping her on, not her skills. She even knows that.

There are facebook pageS, twitter siteS and myspace pages that are practically begging for votes on the phone lines for her and it's been very, very effective.

I feel sorry for her. She knows whats going on and so does her mom. She's just a kid, this is beyond her control, but you know she can't possibly feel good about it. If her mom has anything to do with it, she should have stopped her "supporters" a long time ago. Bristol is going to be vilified for this.

As a mom, I'd NEVER put my kids on the chopping block!

If Bristol does win, it will go a long way in discrediting DWTS itself, maybe even number its days. I'm sure the producers can't be happy.

I agree. Bristol can't be happy about this.

It comes down to votes, not how good they do. - Seriously

[ In Reply To ..]
She's not good, she's trying so I won't diss her for that but she has people voting for her obviously.
I read in the news that a guy shot his TV after - Brandy was voted off, and then was in - sm

a police standoff the rest of the night. A tad extreme, perhaps, but I think that's how most of the country felt last night. This isn't the first time the wrong person was voted off... it happens way too frequently. The producers need to overhaul their voting system pronto, or their ratings are going to plummet next season.
It is no different than American Idol, other than - sm

the fact on DWTS voters are limited to the number of votes they can cast. I hate the voting system on AI where if you want to vote 1000 times you can, they need to limit that just like DWTS does. Personally, 1 vote per phone, text, etc. should be the way it goes. Of course, then the cell phone people wouldn't be making any money for the calls and texts.

I suspect it will lead to a change in how scoring counts - sm

I have not always agreed with the judges and/or popular vote, but at least in those cases the ultimate victor did at least possess dancing skills (I still rue Season 1). But if Palin should win, it would be the first time that I truly felt that someone truly undeserving had won (holy deja vue even writing that).

If she does happen to win, it will either be the moment DWTS 'jumps the shark', or it will bring about a change in the way the ultimate winner is determined because, as you noted, this totally discredits the show and while the teabaggers may be happy with the outcome now, the rest of the viewers, which constitutes a valuable demographic, will be turned off and tune out.

I agree. This is a dancing show not a popularity contest like it actually has been. The best dancer should win, plain and simple. On the other hand though some have had previous experience at acting, dancing (even singers dance) that it is not really fair for someone like Bristol to lumped into that category. I believe she should have been the first one to go and I really believed she should go after she mentioned a couple times she wanted to go home. She just is not as bubbly personality-wise, like she is not excited to be there or even wants to be there. Show some enthusiasm Bristol. I am pulling for Jennifer, but not holding my breath. Between Idol and DWTS, hubby says no more.
I sure hope so! Who would want to work that - hard at dancing for weeks on end,
[ In Reply To ..]
just to have it turn out to be a popularity contest, or worse, a political contest?

I\'m not surprised this is happening on ABC, either.... a VERY conservative TV network. They\'re the ones who cancelled Ellen Degeneres\' first show, when she announced she was gay.
What's up with the apostrophes in the main - text of the posts? It adds a / !!

I think this is a form of kharma. ABC obviously chose - Bristol in order to keep ratings up. -sm

A self-serving move on the part of the producers. They underestimated the internet networking power that the Tea Party is using, and it's coming back to bite them. I love the show and don't want it to ever get cancelled, but I think they let the dollar signs get in the way of clear thinking, and now they stand to alienate a large portion of their television fans. The whole thing (oops... I almost said "situation"! LOL) reeks of corporate greed ruining what was originally a good thing... a fun TV show, full of music, dance, stars, and variety, by taking a stupid gamble on ratings.

You're dead-right. I think Bristol is being - exploited by her mother & the teaparty. nm

I really don't care for Brandy at all either, but she did not deserve to go home, neither did Audrina either earlier on. All I know is Monday night if you don't agree, everyone should vote for whoever they want to win. Don't complain if you don't vote.

I am happy Jennifer and Kyle are both in the finals. I love watching Jennifer dance, and Kyle's personality and entertainment factor are what got him there--much like Donnie last season.

While I like Bristol--her technique you have to admit is good, I don't believe she deserves to be in the finals. But like others have said, the popularity vote is what is keeping her in.

Should have said like Donnie from "2" seaons ago. - NM

I'm not sad she is gone - Sami

Every time I see her enjoying her life I think about the woman she killed and the family she ruined. Good riddance.

Did you even listen to her tape? - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
I don't care for her personally, but the accident in which the person was killed was proven not to be her fault. If you listened to Jennifer's tape also, she and Matthew Broderick were also in a wreck in which 2 people were killed.

Things happen in life and you pick yourself up and go on.

Brandy? That's ridiculous! I think they should - do away with audience voting! nm

Not shocked but very dismayed - tired metatarsal

[ In Reply To ..]
I am not sure Bristol even wants to be in the finals, can you imagine the stress that poor girl is under, she knows she cannot dance. She has improved but...

They need to let the public vote first but let the judges decide who of the lowest 2 goes home. This is getting ridiculous.

I don't want Jennifer to win, she has become quite cocky the past couple of weeks and it does not become her. I am glad to see that Kyle made it through and quite frankly I hope he wins - he has given quite the effort and has the personality to win it all - and he should. JMHO :-)

I hope Kyle wins too - Jennifer is just a weirdo

Sometimes, but I've run into time zone problems - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
My phone has a California phone number but I am in central time, so it won't let me call in during the show, and I have to try to remember to call in two hours later when my area code is approved to dial in.

I do attempt to vote on line, but I have satellite internet, so with the graphically intense page, it is cumbersome to say the least, especially since I'm also officially on the clock and working at the time.

I Vote For The Worst or - Most Controversial

[ In Reply To ..]
I started out with The Hoff, then when he got dumped Week 1, I switched to Bristol Palin and she has received all my votes every week .. both call in and online.

That makes this silly little show enjoyable for me, and that is what matters to me in a TV program.

How will you all feel when they include a - Same Sex Couple?

[ In Reply To ..]
That new development is coming soon. It is already being discussed and the judges are for it.

Let the holy start rollin' !!

I would LOVE to see a couple from A-List New York on there - and I dont even watch DWTS

[ In Reply To ..]
However, if one of the couples from A-List NYC were on there, I'd make it a point to tune in. Same sex couples don't bother me in the least.

What is "A-List NYC"? - Never heard of that before. nm

Its probably not for everyone but its on the LOGO channel (sm) - A-List fan
[ In Reply To ..]
It's a reality show that's pretty much the equivalent of "Real Housewives" except it's centered around 4-5 gay men and their lives on the "A list." There are singles and couples on the show. I'm a straight woman but I just LOVE this show. It's got all the gossip, catfighting, fashion, and beauty that a viewer gets from "straight" versions of this type of show. If you have Comcast, I think it's in the OnDemand. I DVR every episode.
Thanks! Sounds like a cool show! Unfortunately, - I don't have cable at all, just regular TV.

I say go for it. Just make the scoring fair - again, is all we ask! -sm

[ In Reply To ..]
(Though I find it hard to believe ABC would go for it... not "Disney" enough).

Given that Bristol can't dance and is doing so - well with the votes

[ In Reply To ..]
I would think that should tell ABC something. I don't know a lot of Palin fans who are going to be voting for that.

Just as "Palin fans" who never voted before - came out for Bristol

[ In Reply To ..]
There will be homosexuals who never voted before that will come out for a same sex couple, regardless of how good or bad they are.

I too wonder if that will make people as nutso as this ridiculous Bristol flap has.
Hmmm... if they have a same-sex couple next time, - I wonder which profession will be chosen?
[ In Reply To ..]
?
TYPO - I meant "professional". - nm

They would probably get a gay one - Plenty To Choose From

They can start with Louis VanAmstel. He's all rah-rah pro rainbow.

Does anyone watch Dancing with the Stars?  Just curious if anyone shares my opinion.  I am not going to watch the show anymore after this season.  I can't believe Bristol Palin has made it this far.  What a joke.  Personally, I have nothing against Bristol except that she cannot dance and some much better dancers have been eliminated before her.  If they are going to keep running the show, they might as well get rid of the judges.  Actually, I know th ...

what going on with this Bristol-thing.  The most telling are the right-wing and Teaparty websites.   What seems to be coming to light is that this wasn't just a "call your Teaparty friends and vote for Bristol" deal, it's now starting to look like manipulation and voter fraud for political gain.   One person said he tested ABC's online voting system, and discovered that, although you're limited to 5 votes per email address, you aren't limited to the ...
