Why VR will never replace a good MT

I agree, VR won't replace good MTs - but over the years MTs continuously and willingly accept lower and lower pay. VR is touted as the miracle tool for MTs and therefore justification for lower pay. I certainly understand that in life "sometimes you gotta eat crow," but it kills me to see intelligent people, usually women, keep settling for less. The average person has no idea how much research is devoted to producing accurate medical documentation. Lately there seem to be an awful lot of VR "testimonials" here that I'd be willing to bet are management. As for me, I have seen enough. I'm getting out of this life-sucking job and putting my skills into another field that appreciates my efforts.

Why do you think management to like VR? - VR person

I have spent years and years doing this type of work. At an older age, late 50s, the hospital I worked at decided to train us on VR. We were taught and then the next thing we knew outsourced to a company. I did not know 1 thing about any companies out there as my entire MT life had been in hospitals. I could have stayed at the hospital in another type of job or I could go with the company where the transcription work was going. I decided to stay with the same work I had now doing for 30 something years and went with the company. I did not want to go out at almost 60 trying to find another hospital and VR was just not an issue with me. I knew I was fast as a regular MT so I did not sweat VR. I am totally amazed when I see people on here who apparently do not know the first thing about VR to write, oh they have to be a newbie in order to VR, they probably are slow transcriptions or here is one I see continuously and that is management! I absolutely love VR because what I was trained on is an excellent system and most times the ESLs are a breeze. There are so many now, seems more than our English speaking dictators. I do not make as much as I did with this job say in the 80s but then again I am very pleased with my average of around $20.00 an hour and I have on my own cut my hours to part instead of full and any and all overtime. In the 80s we not only had a base pay at the hospital but also production pay and that would be hard to beat with any place in these times. I do not think that is a bad salary for working in this field these days. I have never been management nor have I ever wanted to be. If VR is not for you, that is ok. Some like, some do not but as far as calling anyone management who happens to like, so far from the truth. As far as staying I probably would be the first to tell any younger people to find another profession where maybe they could stay, have enough to support their families. For me, this VR fits like a glove.

I can tell you why - ripped off

My employer actually said these words to me when I asked why he wanted to go to VR since it usually caused the MT to lose money: "We want to do everything we can to make sure the MT is producing more and making the same amount of money." I don't think he could possibly have imagined how insulting that statement was.
I don't find that insulting because - VR person

what I take from this is the person wanting you to make the same and actually produce more. I would rather hear that than more work and dropping your pay, now that would be worse to me. And I go back to the post I replied to and that person was betting management was posting here because they love VR, could not possibly be us lowly transcriptionists, could it?

Sounds like the VR that Nuance Focus - Mary

the engine in a 1997 Ford F250?  My husband and I just bought this truck for our son a little over a month ago and we have been told by two mechanics that it's probably blown heads and that we should replace the engine.  Using a rebuilt engine, I am assuming this will be around $2500-3000.  Does anyone know off hand? ...

Why Is It When You Get Something Good ...smAug 05, 2012
When you get something good, everybody wants a piece of it.  My hubbie got a very good job.  He drives an eighteen wheeler and has had some crappy jobs.  He waited to get on with this company for months.  He is making great money.  Enough so that I could quit transcription and go back to college.  (Thank you Lord)  He makes the mistake of telling people how well paying it is and everybody wants a job.  I said it's real simple if they have an opening ...

No matter how much you hate him this is a good article.  Cut him down all you want but it won't change the truth.
