Reparations: How much do they owe you? - sm Posted: Apr 15th, 2021 - 12:36 pm
I would love to take a serious look at reparations and try to figure out how much I'm owed.
First, let's compare what happened during the slave trade.
- Black people were kidnapped by other black people in Africa and sold into slavery in the US and other places.
Next, if the slave trade hadn't happened, what would be the average yearly income of slaves today?
- Average yearly income in Africa is $2000 to $5000.
What is the average yearly income of black people in the US today?
- $45,358.

Doesn't this mean slavery was a net benefit for black people living in the US? At least, when compared to black people living in their country of origin in Africa.
Doesn't that mean black people (with slave ancestry) owe white people (with slave owning ancestry) the difference in income?
Because reparations.
OR can we come to an agreement and say slavery was a horrible thing but you can keep the benefits ($40,000+ per year - Africa vs. US income) and we'll call it even?
