It won't stop the spread - anon

Posted: Jul 13th, 2020 - 3:52 am In Reply to: Why do people not accept that if you're worried about it, - then you can wear the damn mask

but wearing a mask can SLOW it down. In the states that loosened up restrictions, like Nevada, the infection rate took off, especially now that Covid has mutated into a much more contagious version of itself. So, because no one knows how severely people infected with Covid will react, the rationale is to try and get ahead of the spread to prevent a possible surge in hospital admissions. A lot of people have ended up in ICU for several days. This makes it harder to also care for other acute illness cases like heart attacks, strokes, trauma injuries, etc.

So, no one is trying to take away your liberties or ruin your life by wearing a mask. This is everyone's chance to give a damn about other people in their community, their families, their co-workers, the businesses that don't want to have to shut down again because of a Covid outbreak, etc. When I hear about Covid parties where younger people are seeing who can get sick first, it just really shocks me that they're so cavalier about their own health and possibly spreading something potentially deadly to their families and others. One 30-year-old has already died from going to a Covid party.

I hope you realize that not everyone has a strong enough immune system to fight off an infection with Covid. And that's the thing; we don't know who that person may be - young or old. So it's really no big deal to put on a mask. It's not like we're being asked to wear a hazmat suit!
