voluntarily and so do the businesses contribute voluntarily. Private philanthropic organizations and endowments also contribute voluntarily. The CPB (Corporation for Public Broadcasting) and NEA (National Endowment for the Arts), which are Federally funded contribute around 2% of NPR's and PBS's budget. The rest comes from voluntary contributors like myself. How I wish the notion that NPR and PBS are completely funded by the government would go away. They are not completely funded by the government. The CPB and NEA feel it's beneficial that they make a contribution to the arts and education. If you don't like it, contact your representatives in Congress and lobby for them to stop contributing. If that 2% funding went away, we'd still exist on private donations because people who appreciate and are devoted to PBS and NPR will step up.
