NPR gets about 45% of their funding through taxpayers, - either directly or indirectly.

Tax deductible donations from individuals and businesses, thus they are subsidized by the govt, university funding that comes from federal grants, federal dollars that flow through CPB to NPR and the local NPR affilated stations (which is then paid to NPR in the form of programming charges)....

Without taxpayers, NPR would not exist.
