Shortages of trained/skilled workers - Whst to do?

Posted: Nov 18th, 2019 - 3:58 pm

I work in a hospital.  Not MT...anymore.  I find it amazing and, when I really think about it, outrageous and maddening, how much outsourcing goes on in hospitals.  MT is not necessarily  a good example, because much of this outsourcing is due to shortages.   Radiology techs and nurses are two major fields where the hospital foots a bill 3x what the hourly cost would be for these workers....so say 1.5x if you count benes.  Enormous waste of money that could be spent on healthcare.

If we, as a country, as a society, could see past the  extreme 1% capitalist  way by offering  free education and free training we would have our shortages filled and better healthcare.

Get rid of the middleman.  The outsource companies have  no hidden source of nurses or rad techs,  except that they can afford to pay a little  better because they soak the hospital so hard, so the workers sign up with them.

The hospitals could even afford to pay more, if they could  quit wasting money on outsourcing.
