The OP makes an excellent point: If a hospital would offer better salaries, they could use employees instead of paying all that extra for contract employees.
When my son had an appendectomy, besides all the hospital charges, I got bills from the companies that supplied the anesthesiologist as well as the nurse anesthesiologist. Cannot remember who else was contracted by the hospital, but it made me realize just how many people involved in that operation were not hospital employees.
