Please provide links to your research that the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) fined health care professionals for not using VR. I'd be very interested!

The EMR mandate started under Bush in 2004. Yes, it took awhile for our jobs to be effected, but it started in 2004. The incentives (part of the 2009 HITECH Act) were put in place to promote the meaningful use of electronic health records, not to promote the use of voice recognition technology. Those two things aren't the same. You can meet meaningful use requirements (e-prescribing, reporting data quality, and exchanging data among providers) without using VR.

I think the spread of VR had much more to do with the lack of understanding of what MTs bring to the table, greed on the part of companies like Nuance, and the desire of health care organizations to save money.

Honestly, companies like Nuance are much more to blame than Obama. They took advantage of a situation and fed healthcare CEOs a bunch of pie-in-the sky stories about how much money they'd save. I'm sure many of the poorly paid and benefits-lacking MTs on this board benefit from many of the provisions of the Affordable Care Act (aka "Obamacare"). I know I appreciate that I can keep my kids on my health care plan until age 26.
