Anybody Know... - see msg

Does anybody know how to find out if a piece of art is worth something? The painting, an oil, looks real old and the artist's signature has faded/rubbed off over time. I know zippo about art, but I have a feeling about this. Even if the painter isn't famous, there may be somebody out there who would pay some good money out there. I just don't know where to start.

There are a lot of crooks out there. We got "took" twice already where we live, and I'm not taking that chance again.

There is enough signature showing so that I know it's not Monet or Van Gogh. It's a Dutch scene. I have to assume it was someone who actually lived in Holland. My MILs side of the family is Dutch, and that's how we got it when she died. Hubby was an "only," so there was no reason to list it separately in a will as something of monetary value. And neither of us recall her telling us its history or potential value.

Thanks so much!
