Don't stay in abusive relationships. It took me a while, but I got out.

And I do blame us. If we had collectively stood up to the bullies, we never would have become perpetual victims.

Some people choose to blame others for their unhappiness in whatever situation. If that's the case, they will always be victims. I opt to be happy and proactive. I have a much better outlook on life by so doing.
