Paying more for goods is due to the very simple law of supply and demand.
People with jobs have more money to spend. (This is the "demand" part.) More people are needed to make the goods the people with money are now "demanding." Prices increase because the supply hasn't caught up with demand.
Eventually, supply will catch up with demand. Even more new jobs will be created in response.
Which will increase demand...
