Many Pubs had issues with McCain in 2008, before Trump said anything. - sm

First, I don't believe I ever said anything negative against McCain. I was merely pointing out that I could see why some didn't like him.

Second, I don't think it has anything to do with Trump saying that he liked people who didn't get captured during the campaign.

Third, McCain has done enough on the national stage in his later years to make plenty of reasonable people not like him.

Here's a partial list:
* In 2008 some could make the case that McCain was too worried about how the media portrayed him. This prevented him from defending Sarah Palin and vigorously pointing out differences between him and Obama.
* He voted No on the repeal of Obamacare despite spending the previous 2 years campaigning that he wanted it gone.
* He promoted and gave credence to the Steele dossier in an attempt to take down the President Elect.

To directly answer your question, I don't believe that Trump supporters' irritation with McCain has anything to do with Trump. It has more to do with McCain's own actions.
