A much bigger problem, but why don't the politicians care? - Mary Roach

Posted: Jan 7th, 2019 - 9:35 am

This may just be my personal opinion, but at least these days, drunk driving doesn't seem to be a very popular subject for the politicians to care about and focus on.

I've noticed over the past few years an alarmingly large number of drunken wrong-way crashes on America's highways. Americans are doing this to each other, so we don't need to "go there" regarding blaming illegal immigrants on this subject.

Let's look at this crash that just recently happened. An entire family, get that, an ENTIRE FAMILY, both parents and all three children, killed from a drunk wrong-way driver. In what universe is this okay or not sufficiently noteworthy to alarm our politicians? Was this "just an accident, and accidents happen?"

Think about whoever has to go to this family's house and clear it out. No one home. No one left to be at home. Any pets? All the toys, clothes, personal items? Yet this is not as important a subject to fight over as climate change, blah blah blah blah blah. All these decades, we have known for certain that drunk driving is a big problem. Alas, it's just not newsworthy these days, so you never even hear politicans mention this subject.

It pisses me off, and I wanted to see what you politics buffs (from both sides of the aisle) have to think about it.
