Actually, you are wrong. This isn't about him expressing his freedom of speech - it is about him making a political statement at his workplace. I don't know any other job where people are allowed to blatantly spit in the face of authority and keep their jobs. Only in the Nationl Felon League. How many of those "kneelers" have criminal records of their own? Are they "protesting" a particular policy? No - they are protesting the fact that cops arrest black males. Are they kneeling for all the innocent black victims in the neighborhood gang violence in Chicago, Compton, Philadelphia, etc.? No - not one word from them about that. They are only concerned about their fellow young black males who feel they should be immune from law enforcement. It is a bogus "protest" and your attempt to justify it while claiming to be so tolerant of their "right" to freedom of speech is simply absurd. Cops' jobs are hard enough without people like you condoning the likes of the overpaid spoiled NFL'ers spitting in their faces.
