Once I donated expensive - KittenFood Posted: Dec 31st, 2017 - 4:05 pm In Reply to: I No - Longer
Once I donated some expensive kitten food (a veterinary brand) to the local humane society. To my surprise, the lady on the phone offered to come to my house to pick it up. (It was about 30 lb. of dry food.)
She was supposed to leave a receipt for me but did not. Where did that food go? I have no idea.
That same humane society used to offer FREE pet food and litter to local residents. These were discards from the local stores that could not be sold due to some "problem" -- a rip in the bag, etc.
After years of a successful program, they had to change it. Now they REBAG each item into plain, no-brand-name grocery bags.
The reason? Scumbags were going there and lying, stating that they couldn't afford to feed their animals. Then after they got the free food they sold it at a local fleamarket. Not sure how they got caught, but they did!
Who knows how long the program will last. Now they have to have MORE volunteers and employees putting in MORE time to rebag the stuff.
